Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

Which the article says they did. This is the hotel:

Doesn’t seem very “libertarian” to me.

– and I seriously regret having looked at part of that Twitter page. It’s nasty in multiple ways.

Apparently this trip had to be postponed twice due to the pandemic.

Everyone’s home now, BTW.

They flew from… England.

To the USA.

To… practice their English? (brain explodes)

Their AMERICAN English…

So they can spell colour incorrectly?

And talk like they had a towel in their mouth. (runs…)

I typed up the reply: “Actually, England is an English speaking country.” but I decided against posting because my New Year’s resolution is to become less like @Euphonious_Polemic

I applaud you, and wish you the best in your fruitless endeavour.

Have you been watching The Last of Us? There are some lovely mountains not 10 miles west of Boston, if you know where to look.

Millions of people fly from France to America every year to experience the taste of French Fries.

Well, they don’t actually do that, but if they hypothetically did want to experience the taste of French Fries, that’s what they would do. Probably.

No, they came to New England. Where else would they go to hear English spoken properly???

If that’s the hotel they probably were skiing at Loon (which you can see behind the lodge on the website photo) and Cannon is just up the road. Not my idea of a destination ski vacation, but the skiing can be pretty good.

Me, too. It’s not a big deal. It’s like forgetting to put your new registration sticker on your license plate. You just have to show that your registration has been renewedand is currently active. Ages ago I had to go to the courthouse with physical proof to dismiss the citation. Now, they just look it up online at the time of the stop.

Again, depending on the state that won’t be enough to avoid an infraction and some kind of fee. And in every state it’s a hassle to drive without a license on you, even if you eventually get it cleared up in court.

Bottom line: it’s always a bad idea to drive without your license and any car dealer who insists you do that is a fucking idiot. Sure, you probably won’t get pulled over, but it will be a pain in the ass if it happens.

Oh, yeah, and I admit I’ve gotten pretty cavalier about it. I’m notorious for forgetting to put the sticker on my car, because I know it’s not a big deal. HERE.

The only reference I can find for my state New Mexico says:

License not in possession. A driver who was issued a license but was not carrying it while driving can be charged with a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum $300 fine and up to 90 days in jail. The driver can’t be convicted if a then-valid license is produced in court.

It’s a bit odd. It also says that is an arrestable offense.

Yet it does not say producing your license in court just gives them discretion to let you off. It says they cannot convict you. So an essential element of the offense is that you subsequently not produce a license in court.

For an arrest, it’s a Catch-22 offense. I would think that a police officer cannot arrest you unless he suspects you of committing the offense. But an essential element of the offense is to fail to show your license in court after he arrests you. How can he suspect you of failing to doing something that you are not required to do until some time after he arrests you?

Judging by the #, most of those teens hadn’t really gone skiing before.
