And if the passports had been stolen out of the room, the correct answer would have been “The manager should have taken those passports and given them to the manager.”
I actually surprised that the chaperones didn’t keep the passports handy at all times … isn’t that where CBP puts the visa stamp for each person? I remember when I was Germany as an exchange student I had to keep my passport on me at all times just in case I got stopped by the cops on the street.
That’s what I was thinking. Considering how absolutely fanatical some American cops can be about getting ID from everyone in sight, it would make sense that the tourists keep their passports on them at all times.
Not just cops… I’m in a relationship with a guy from Toronto…I’ve noticed bouncers at bars and clubs sure have a hard time processing the concept of an Ontario drivers license as valid ID. It’s like watching a chimpanzee trying to figure out a man made object. But then again we’re in Texas so we have to take that into account.
He tells me that pretty much anyone that checks “IDENTITY” for what ever reason they feel like they need to. Has that issue especially the farther away from the border you get…
But I don’t really recall having any problems in Canada when we visit his family every several weeks or so…he assured me that because we haven’t gone farther north than the 407.
I live in MI LP, and work at a convenience store. We are required to check ID for tobacco and alcohol purchases. I have never seen an Ontario ID. I’ve seen tons of Mexican ID. We used to not be allowed to take those, but we do now.
We are required to check ID for tobacco and alcohol purchases. I would very carefully check an Ontario ID and may ask a co-worker or a manager for clarification. I may ask for another form of ID, for instance a passport one of the acceptable ID’s for such purchases. We are supposed to carefully inspect ALL ID’s. You should see some of the videos we have to watch. If we screw up (and they try to sting us all the time) we face: loss of job, fines, jail time.
In other words, we don’t do it 'cause we’re stupid, for the power trip, or funzies. We do it because the consequences of not doing it are pretty dire. They tend to trump anyone’s outrage for being carded.
Though in this case, we’re talking about teenagers from the UK who are mostly or entirely at a New Hampshire ski resort. I doubt any were getting carded or asked for ID during their stay.
Oh no I work in the hotel industry… we get a lot of foreign teenagers who try to order drinks in the bar or order alcohol through room service. Mainly because they are able to buy alcohol back home. We card them. Our bartenders servers know what a EU and UK IDs look like. And most other no US IDs look… oddly enough the US ones are the ones that are hardest to tell because they all look different from one state to another.
OK, in that case how would it help for these kids to have their passports on them, or in the care of the chaperones? Presenting the passports to the hotel bar would just prove that they’re underage.
I used to work in a casino, and same. It was amazing how many people came in with their kids to eat and didn’t realize they needed to be of age. Though I don’t know what the harm would be to a toddler except for the cigarette smoke….
On March 1, a Farmington police officer spotted an unusual, illegitimate license plate on a blue BMW. A traffic stop ensued, ending in a hail of gunfire that killed 25-year-old Chase Allan, who police say was reaching for a gun as officers attempted to pull him from the car.
Let me repeat part of that for you. reaching for a gun as officers attempted to pull him from the car. These loons might look silly and sound silly, but in reality, as I’ve mentioned a number of times, they are quite dangerous. In this case, the stupid MFer was the only victim of his chosen line in the sand.
Oh, be sure to read the entire article. There’s some new sovcit nonsense verbiage I’ve never encountered before. The best part, though, is the understatement of the year by Richard Platt of the Utah Attorney General’s Office:
At the very least, they are unpredictable.
I’ve also mentioned before that what these sovcits want is confrontation and, of course, they want to come out on top of the poor sods dealing with them. Do a quick search for “Title IV Flag” and you’ll see some rather loony stuff, especially with regards to punctuation peopel’s names.
