So once upon a time, when the stars were not yet fully formed, I took a course in Marine Invertebrate Zoology in college. My professor relayed the anecdote about how when he was first teaching and he had classes out in the field, if they found a small octopus in a tide pool he would let it crawl on his hand while he lectured about it. That practice ended one fine day when an octopus decided to chomp down on him and he ended being out for several days with a fever and a hand swollen like a grapefruit.
ALL octopuses are venomous, every single one. Even if most won’t kill you, they’ll all hurt. Doesn’t pay to be overly casual with them.
Dozens of seniors in a North Carolina school district were barred from participating in their high school graduation ceremonies over pranks that caused thousands of dollars in damage to school property.
More than 80 students in the Alamance-Burlington School System were involved in a May 25 senior prank in which six high schools were vandalized, according to the school district.
The worst damage was done at Walter Williams High School in Burlington, where cement poured into the school’s toilets caused $4,000 in damages.
[T]he school district says it’s identified 86 of the students involved. All but three are seniors who won’t be allowed to walk across the stage at graduation.
“I said the numbers will probably rise because we’re still investigating. This is not over,” Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler said.
I’ve lived in Tacoma all my life except for seven years in Tibet Montana, and the bolded part above is an understatement. Between the smelter, the pulp mills and the stockyards there were times one had to chew the air to get it down.
They’re not seniors is how I read it. What isn’t clear is are they juniors who are graduating early and won’t walk or are they juniors who were participating but not graduating?
Sounds like a terrible plan. But if everyone in Colorado is in, I’ll wish you luck, as though that would help. Maybe thoughts and prayers, it seems agreed upon that thoughts and prayers are effective.
I imagine they were juniors who joined the seniors in crime, but whose punishment can’t include being deprived of participation in a graduation ceremony that they weren’t going to be in anyway. I would expect that those juniors’ senior year will include other punishments, like no sports, no prom and no graduation ceremony (when it’s their turn)
