Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

A Del Taco franchisee in Huntington Beach appears to have used AI to design their latest window ad;

Is he the anti-Jasper Johns?

But, this flag has no white in it. From across the street, it looks like a big black sheet.

Gotcha. Thanks. I’ve never seen anything remotely like that.

Me: “That is a badass flag! What’s it mean? Where’d ya get it? How much did it cost?”

“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

I suggest keeping your distance.

Cheesburgershit

They just ran out of room

Rats, I wanted the Cheeseburgersnot.

Although I would have assumed that window posters like that are provided by the franchisor; why would a franchisee need to make up its own?

Goes great with the Mucushake.

Honestly if that was AI-generated I’m impressed. Usually AI not only gets words spelled wrong, it makes the letters all kinds of crazy sizes or mangles their shapes. Just a couple of goofs (adding “nt” to Cheeseburgers and adding an O to the front of the Del Taco logo).

The Reddit thread this came from has a plausible suggestion that this was a template glitch of some kind. That would explain why the mistakes are so minimal.

There’s also a TikTok video of this drive thru (it’s in SoCal).

…and they just stuck the poster up without looking at it.

Why is Del Taco selling cheeseburgers to begin with?

I just checked the website; cheeseburgers are on the menu and the Double Del Cheeseburger has a regular price of $4.99, so two for $9 is a slight discount.

I’ve worked fast food. With those kind of window decals, you can’t actually see what it looks like until after you’ve already got it halfway stuck to the window. The owner/franchisee may have just told them to keep it up until they get replacements out.

Del Taco has always sold burgers. And they’re good. (At least they were when I lived in L.A., prior to 2004.)

Plus, they’re owned by a burger place that sells tacos, so it’s only natural.

And I loved their crinkle-cut fries.

The burgers look pretty good.
