I was soooo hoping the bomber was from Illinois. I especially hate those kinds of Nazis.

Considering that pretty much every concert or wrestling show I’ve been to in an arena over the last 25 years has incorporated some amount of pyro, I’d guess “not very many”.
Yes, they’re very common. I think what’s also common is checking to make sure nothing flammable is in range of the pyrotechnics, but that doesn’t seem to have happened in this case.
In other words, it’s not the concept but the execution that is the problem.
Good bet he likes invading nearby defenseless places.
