Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

It reminds of a similar mishap in Germany from maybe 20 years ago I already shared on the Dope:

Not recently, but in the same vein. I took someone to the wrong airport, because they assumed that it was the correct one since it was an international departure. Fortunately, we had arrived 3 hours early and therefore I had time to drive the hour it took to get to the other airport and there were no issues getting on the correct plane on time. Since them, I am very careful to ask for confirmation from whoever it is what airport they are leaving from.

Was it by chance a confusion between Frankfurt International Airport and Frankfurt/Hahn? Because Frankfurt International is one of the biggest European airports and international hubs and actually in the city of Frankfurt/Main, while Frankfurt/Hahn is a misnomer, a provincial airport in the middle of nowhere of the Hunsrück, with no big city nearby, 125 km away from Frankfurt. Many people have made the experience of expecting to arrive in a metropolis and wondering why they landed in the boondocks.

I remember this one from 40 years ago. A man returning to his hometown of Oakland, CA got on a flight to Auckland, NZ instead.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand — An Oakland man mistook a flight to “Auckland” for one to his hometown and added 12,000 miles to his journey from a holiday in West Germany, customs officials said Tuesday. …

Not until Tahiti was mentioned during an in-flight announcement did Lewis realize his predicament.

According to the article, he returned from West Germany on an Air New Zealand flight and just followed the crowd in Los Angeles.

I once dropped someone off at the airport just in time to see their flight take off without them. We had been off camping, and this was before smart phones, so we completely missed Daylight Saving Time. So I’m completely on the side of weird things can happen.

In this modern era on which we live in, can we be sure the whole “Tunis/To Nice” wasn’t deliberate so they can get views?

I trust no one…

Charlie Kirk (who somehow only appears once in this thread despite being a “stupid MFer in the news”) has apparently been shot in the neck at an event he was holding just a few minutes ago.

Charlie Kirk: "It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment.”

Not that he’s dead.

Well, damn, couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

(Unfortunately, no - nicer guys get shot every day. But you know what I mean.)

Guess someone exercised their First Amendment right to free expression by exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Having seen the video… I wouldn’t be so sure.

Tots and pears.

There’s a video?

Of course there’s video (although I haven’t seen it yet). These days there is always a video. It’s entirely a matter of how accessible/censored it is.

Latest report I saw was that Kirk is at a hospital so presumably still alive.

There are many videos, some extremely close up and disturbing. He was speaking in front of a crowd of thousands of terminally online college students…

I saw the same reports but even if he’s a lost cause they still might be trying to resuscitate him.

Based on the amount of blood and the pose he took on his way down, I’d be extremely surprised if he survived.

Of course they’ll try to revive him. ER’s and Trauma Centers don’t make value judgements on whomever is brought to them, all are (or should) be treated equally.

Not clear if one of the videos I saw was a person being taken into custody for this, looked like an older/middle aged White man but like I said I can’t be sure.

Haven’t found any un-blurred/un-censored video on line so far so I’ll just have to take your word for it. Although one eyewitness described a “fountain” of blood so that doesn’t sound good.

Lol, I meant a medically lost cause, not morally.

I heard that the shooter was arrested, yeah. No info yet on who the shooter was that I’ve seen.

I won’t link it but I’ll tell you that if you really want to find a close up video you should check Twitter.

I’m not on Twitter nor do I care to join, but thanks for the tip. It could also help others.

Me neither, but a Twitter link came up when I googled “Charlie Kirk shooting video” that had what I was looking for.

My dad would say, ‘It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy.’
