Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

The tool that the firefighter said would take five seconds was a “spreader”, which presumably refers to something like that.

Anybody got a link to when Letterman did this version of the stunt?

Yeah, I saw when that one already got posted, and what happens in that video does not match the one @JohnGalt described.

That was from memory, it was a LONG time ago! The memorable thing to me was that if a firefighter, or anyone else, had a big honking deconstruction tool, a lock isn’t going to keep them out.

A tech bro in San Francisco organized a “March for Billionaires” this weekend in opposition to the proposed wealth tax.

Literally tens of people showed up, with trolls and mockers outnumbering the people who were there earnestly.

Gee, I missed that. I didn’t see it on the local news either. Literally tens of people? Appropriate that the park where it was held is in Pacific Heights. It’s four square blocks, that park, I hope they were able to find each other.

That neighborhood is also colloquially known as “Specific Whites”, which probably gives you an idea of the demographics.

Unrelated, but I grew up in a city called Whitefish Bay, which was often referred to as White Folk’s Bay…it wasn’t inaccurate.

I used to live in Milwaukee near the border of Whitefolks Bay!

I’ve lived in San Francisco for 45 years and I’ve never heard anyone say that.

I remember an interview with the first black family to move into Whitefish Bay, and the dad was hilarious: “We’re looking forward to living in what’s now ‘Greyfish Bay’. The first thing we’re going to do is get one of those little Negro curbside jockeys and paint his face white.”

There’s some positive history behind black “lawn jockeys”.

For what it’s worth, Wikipedia says that neither story has been corroborated.
Lawn jockey - Wikipedia

‘Puppy Killer’ Noem’s full name is Kristi Lynn Arnold Noem. Maybe she should have considered the implications of keeping her husband’s name.

I’d sooner think she did. And was overjoyed to see what it spelled.

Growing up, one of my neighbors had one of those lawn jockey statues - a “Jocko”. It was up the driveway near the house, so I never really got a good look at it. This was a nice residential neighborhood, but not an inordantly wealthy one. The couple were older white folks - of course.

I didn’t really understand the implications for a long time - it was just a thing some people did like birdbaths or pink flamingos.

I’m not sure if the couple even intended it as racist, or if it was just a prop to try to embellish their sense of wealth. Something that was a common thing for the wealthy to display when they were young and thus they were copying to pretend they were higher status than they were. Or they could have been raging racists. I wouldn’t know. We didn’t interact other than to occasionally try to sell whatever fundraising products we were told to push.

Y’all remember Loomer? (I’ve removed the formatting for readability.)

The responses to her xits are absolutely wonderful.

My favorite response was comedian Gianmarco Soresi:

“Even Laura Loomer didn’t watch the Kid Rock halftime show.”

I’ll leave it to y’all to determine whether this truly qualifies as stupid. It definitely made me scratch my head.
