Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

In his house at Beuna Vista, dead Walt lies dreaming.

I’m not totally up on pro-wrestling lingo but wasn’t that a face turn?

I assumed the Magic Kingdom refused to issue a visa

Did she actually have a heel turn, though? From all I can gather, darned near everyone on that show was always a heel.

Speaking of whom, she and Tucker Carlson have lately been claiming that Chabad - I.e., the Hasidic Jewish group that focuses on outreach programs and encouraging non-Orthodox Jews to be more observant, and who have some strange ideas about their late Rebbe but are overall just kind-hearted people who want to do good in the world - are the orchestrators of the Iran war as part of a nefarious plot to blow up the Dome of the Rock so they can rebuild Solomon’s temple and resume the ancient practice of ritual animal sacrifice.

I don’t share your positive opinion of the Chabad organization, but that is just straight up anti-Semitism.

Isn’t anti-Semitism the excuse that the administration is using to cut off funds to universities? So what are they going to do when the anti-Semitism comes from inside the right(wing) house?

The same thing they always do; ignore the hypocrisy, change the subject, and accuse Democrats of whatever heinous other stuff Republicans are actually doing.

Come for the tennis, stay to file lawsuits.

A German tourist, Faycal Manz, visiting NYC for the U.S. Open, decided to visit a Mexican restaurant in Times Square  for a taco experience he couldn’t get in his native land.

Unfortunately he larded on the hot sauce, unaware that spiciness could ensue, and wound up with allegedly grievous injuries.

A judge has thrown out the suit.

Manz also sued the city of New York because police didn’t respond quickly enough to his 911 call when he witnessed an assault, and sued Walmart because he couldn’t use a New Jersey store’s WiFi without providing a U.S. phone number.

Ignore it, of course, or possibly actively support it. They’re only against it when the claim of being against it can be used to attack Muslims; which produces an added bonus of trying to encourage Muslims and Jews to attack each other.

Or when they can hurt universities like Harvard that they perceive as liberal bastions, ignoring that Harvard is about as Republican establishment as you can get.

Is there any news about whether or not he stabbed himself in the face with a fork, or choked while trying to swallow a napkin whole?

Wasn’t the reason thry claimed antiSemitism at the universities because they were allowing pro-Palestinian protests? Maybe not, I may have lost track in all of this mess, but that’s my recollection.

Some pro Palestinians are antiSemitic, of course. But not all of them are.

Meanwhile, conservatives argue for free speech on campuses, saying that conservatives are silenced. So if campuses should allow everyone to express their opinions, should that also not allow for pro-Palestinian protests (some of which will may be anti-Israeli)?

My read of it was that a lot of the protests were carrying over into some genuine anti-Semitism and the universities were throwing their hands up and saying, “Free speech!” in exactly the way you would expect a conservative free speech absolutist institution to behave. But because most people think that education = liberal indoctrination, the Republicans gleefully used this institutional issue as a cudgel to punish liberals, even though it didn’t really do that. But what was important is that it appeared to do that, while stoking the flames of American anti-intellectualism.

The irony is that conservatives were punishing universities for holding conservative values - in this case, the value that nobody should ever be held accountable for being a bigot.

Herr Manz is an alien I wouldn’t mind seeing deported.

Wait, what?

I thought they were angling for free conservative speech, i.e. free for me but not for thee.

Yes, that’s what they really want.

Hard disagree. He seems like an ideal American.

He certainly learned of all his tactics from reading US media reports of Real Americans suing one another mostly for the hell of it. NYC folks especially.

He’s just trying the “When in Rome do like the Romans” gambit.
