That’s not actually a lot of money (no matter what the currency) for a municipal water/sewer system for a city of nearly 3 million people. That is, it’s a lot for someone to give, but it’s not a lot compared to the overall cost. And they received the donation a month ago.

I’m not staggered by the cost of fixing the sewer system. But that much gold I’m sure they didn’t drive up in a dump truck to hand deliver. It just seems an oddly specific and cumbersome choice of currency when the actual exchange was some sort of electronic transfer or paper exchange.
It’s about 60 lbs of gold. Fits easily in a backpack, but would be heavy.
