Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Glad I clicked on that, learned two things:

  1. They’ve repealed the law! DIDN’t expect that…

  2. I was surprised at how tan/sunburned the dad reunited with his family was.
Turns out, he wasn’t in jail. He was just required to not fly back to the USA until things were sorted out. Looks like Dad got to do a little golfing, a little swimming, maybe a poolside massage…
“Hey, compadres, d’ya think you could repeal the law a couple months from now”

Any target shooting at the range?

Well, they confiscated his bullets, so it was more like:

“PULL!”

::click::

“PULL!”

::click::

“Great job!”

You know…fuck that guy.

He got a long vacation and did not have to spend a single day in prison. Sure, he was out of work the whole time (unless they let him work remote, then, seriously, fuck him and the plane he flew in/out on) and his family missed him. Big whoop. I don’t give a single fuck that it was unintentional. It was still irresponsible and stupid. If he was not so fortunate as to be an American, he wouldn’t have gotten such special treatment.

I’m sooooo very happy that they’ve decided the law should be applied differently to some people than others. It’s a wonderful precedent to set. /s

This one (American) person may have been treated differently from others up until now, but Turks and Caicos has now removed their 12 year minimum prison sentence, which should mean other people accused of something similar (and with similar extenuating circumstances) also won’t be looking at a mandatory minimum 12 years in prison.

You want the government of Turks and Caicos to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to house an inmate for 12 years who never represented a threat to any resident of T&C?

I’m as happy as the next bleeding heart anti-gun liberal to see irresponsible ammosexuals get their comeuppance. 12 years for having a couple of bullets in the bottom of a suitcase? That’s excessive.

This legislative change makes sense as noted in the article, to differentiate between people who are actual threats from people who are not threats.

It probably does still reflect some institutional injustice that the only reason the law was changed was because it affected an American. How many others were arrested and served long sentences before this guy?

This is the hard-hitting reporting I expect from this thread! Loved the Slate article too.

Props that he worked the deep state into his defense.

No, I want consistency.

If they want to change the sentencing so there is an explicit set of guidelines that allows judges to suspend or reduce the sentence given specific, measurable criteria, great! Or even change the minimums for everybody? That also works.

But, no, the actual change they made was to keep the 12 year minimum but allow the judges broad personal latitude in adjusting that sentence.

They’re basically saying “we’re setting a different standard for Americans without explicitly stating we’re setting a different standard for Americans”. That’s complete horseshit.

My sentiments exactly. And also, what about his Second Amendment rights? (That was sarcasm by the way - I’ve come to learn that Americans who sneak guns out of the country love to invoke their 2A rights when caught with them in foreign countries.)

Don’t know if this belongs here, but there isn’t a What Are You Thinking thread.

Bell Belichik, former NFL head coach, is 72, and recently started dating a 24-year-old former cheerleader.

But, the relationship is fine, according to her former boyfriend, who’s only 64.

He’s old, wealthy, and famous, she’s young and pretty. They’re both adults. It’s so common it’s a cliche. I can’t really bring myself to criticize either of them much even if it seems gross to me (though I’m even a bit of a hypocrite as you’ll see below). Who knows, maybe they even like each other, you never know.

I once was engaged to a woman 20 years older than me (I was 23 and she was 43). The age difference was never a problem. Of course, their age difference is exactly double what mine was, but still, it’s not always a big deal.

I say if they are both willing and enjoy their arrangement more power to them.

May be that Ms. Hudson just has a type.
But really if it hadn’t been that she started dating Belichick, specifically, all she and whoever she was with would have to deal with would be disapproving eyebrow raises from restaurant servers and Uber drivers.

And now, the latest attempt in the world of “I want to exploit a public domain IP but I have no talent so I’ll fake it with AI”; a Winnie the Pooh Xmas movie for Amazon Video, starring such timeless characters as Grrgrckl, the three-legged headless abomination with teeth growing out of its back directly above its asscrack.

But no brain tissue.

I remember an ad long, long ago – can’t remember what what it was selling – but there was a photo of a very young and beautiful woman in a bridal gown feeding a slice of cake to this incredibly decrepit old man in a tuxedo.

Below was,
They tell me she’s only marrying me for my money.

Like I care.

Was it a Dignitas Pillow ad?

Like the joke about a 70 year old Billionaire talking about his 20 year old bride:

“I lied to her about my age”

“Did you tell her you were 60?”

“No, I told her I was 95”

“Aren’t you worried that if the two of you get too physical that it could be fatal?”

“Sure I’m worried, but if she dies, she dies.”
