We click a button to issue an official warning that is recorded in the automated infraction system. The poster receives a PM notifying him of the warning and it will show up in his infraction tab. (It will also show up in his email if he has PM notifications on.) The mods and the poster can both see it. Bone issued an official warning for that post.

D’ansonia: I was half-temped to defend your position since there is no way for us regular posters to see a warning was issued, and posters here, including the mods, regularly make a big deal about the difference between a warning and mod note.
