Lumper!
There are two types of people. Those who put other people into categories, and those who don’t.
I line them up in a row, like ducks.
That is heartbreaking. I wish him well.
I’ve been thinking about launching into a full-scale explanation of macro social work and how it’s actually the professional experience of nonprofit and community leaders that resulted in the whole concept of ‘‘intersectionality’’ as an effective mechanism of change in the first place, but I might be wasting my breath. It’s just frustrating to me that apparently, some people think liberals pull these concepts out of our asses. In reality, they come from concrete real-world experience serving people who have multiple obstacles to success. Academics observed what we are doing in the real world and created some language around it, and it is kind of a buzzword (used and abused) in certain liberal social circles, but it’s actually a very practical professional guideline that is sensible and effective for helping people get out of poverty. The reason leftwing academics think it’s such a BFD is that professionals have demonstrated in the trenches that it’s the most effective approach for serving disadvantaged communities.
I’m tired of people not understanding that social justice work is an incredibly broad, active, widespread, intentional, heavily researched *skilled professional *thing. Even fucking social workers don’t always know this. I have worked in nonprofit development for years and I once had some adorable AmeriCorps kid ask me, the Development Associate at the nonprofit where she worked, why I decided to ‘‘leave social work.’’ :smack:
DEVELOPMENT IS SOCIAL WORK. RAAAAAWR.
After seeing his latest contributions to that thread, John, I think that you may be correct.
I’ve been worried, too, and have sent a few PMs with no reply from Quasi.
Now he wants to know if there are any countries more tribalistic than the U.S.
Oh. Well if he’s posted that in other places too he must be posting sincerely. Trolls only ever post in one place.
Even if he really is an autistic Mexican teenager of Argentine descent whose main interest is discussing American sociopolitical rhetoric on general interest message boards, because that could totally be true, it’s pretty obvious he is enjoying yanking people’s chains to get attention. That is still trolling and answering is still feeding him.
However, a lot of the replies in that thread are excellent and make it worth sending this young chavo off with a full belly.
I was in touch with him on PM, trying to arrange some local assistance for him. I lost touch before finding out if it happened. I’ll try checking in with the group that was going to work with him (if they’ll tell me) and see if they were able to connect. This is definitely off topic. If anyone wants an update, please PM me and I’ll send you a note if I have further news.
Mr. Intersectionality lost me at “oppression Olympics”. That’s a big ol’ red flag right there.
I’m curious about our new friend Bloodstalk. There are an awful lot of “A Trump supporter said to me; how should I respond?” posts happening there, and I can’t decide whether this is soft trolling or if we’re basically being asked to do someone’s homework for them. I mean, I don’t mind offering informed responses for use against ill-informed nonsense but I can’t get a read on how seriously I should take this.
I find the “lol” comments inconsistent with someone posting with sincerity. I likewise doubt his autism for the same reasons. That type of response, where you laugh at people who don’t take you seriously or who give an emotional response, always screams “troll” to me.
Although folks are feeding him, at least they are treating that thread mostly as a joke thread.
A better troll, from a troll POV that is. Still, busted in a record post time. What, 2 posts and he’s uncovered?
Thank you, but note the real win was leaving the thread after that post.
There are two kinds of people: Those who can extrapolate from partial data
There are 10 types of people. Those who understand binary numbers and those who don’t.

I really like Luciano700’s introduction thread. Everybody’s making fun of him in it.
