Since we’re talking prescriptivism, I will confess that I finally made my peace last week with squash = quash. I heard “squash” twice by reporters on NPR in the last month, so I think quash has been, like, squashed, and we are just going to have to learn to live with it. It wasn’t a very unique mix-up anyway.

On the subject of actual trolls, colette8 deserves a proper mention.
I dunno, she mentions having moved from Texas and living in a bubble, so I think hitting the wider world was more of a shock for mom than daughter.
She probably posted hoping the responses would include helplines and rehabilitation resources. When that didn’t happen, she ran from the room.
Last activity time is the same as the post time, so she hasn’t been back to see the responses.
Now she’s back, thanking posters one at a time in the thread. She seems so…happy.
She may have just needed permission to be OK with it.
Forget about goats and squids; the new hazing ritual for new posters is apparently going to be surviving an accusation of being a troll in this thread.
