I have such a hard time understanding that. Why would you even bother? Eight hundred posts in thirteen years, so obviously he can be elsewhere, but little drama queen just has to pull off the SbM. Seems like it would be much easier to log out and delete your bookmarks and cookies.

If this is easy, why did so many in the West who traditionally advocate free speech and the free exchange of ideas panic and reach completely the wrong view on Charlie Hebdo, just because a whole lot of people said “we don’t like this”?

Why have so many on the left in the U.S. lost their way on upholding the principles of free speech?

Assuming you mean ‘free speech’ as in ‘free of consequences’.

I like freedom of speech. When people feel like they can say any damned thing they want, you know who they are. When they don’t, you never know them.

But that doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be consequences. Freedom of Association is even more basic than Freedom of Speech. We can’t be forced to be engaged with people we despise with one legal exception - public accommodation laws if you run a business. So you can’t say any damned thing you like and then, due to strange ideas about ‘freedom’, shut down everyone else’s rights to respond and/or have nothing to do with you.
