The FBI’s investigation of Carter Page was essentially following up a lead, and leads aren’t always reliable. There’s no way of knowing the veracity of a lead until it’s actually investigated. Besides, Page was ostensibly in the pocket of Russian energy oligarchs. His job entailed finding ways the Russians could usurp the EU market for natural gas: the same Russians who fed all the misinformation to right-wing Facebook users and manufactured silly conspiracy theories (Pizzagate, anyone?) and tampered with the 2016 election. No wonder he wound up in the FBI’s crosshairs. Trump’s all about making shady deals with the Russians, and when someone displays the same behavior, collusion is for damn sure going to be a concern.
All this is moot, because get this: Carter Page Has Nothing To Do With Impeachment! It’s about the fact that Donald Trump tried to extort the president of Ukraine into announcing an investigation of a political opponent, which is an obvious and flagrant abuse of power.
Also, let’s get the timing right: the IG report began 2 years ago and was released just last week. Don’t you think the IG kept their findings confidential until the report was completed? How’s Schiff going to know about the FBI’s fuckups (which the IG concluded were not done out of political motivation), if they weren’t documented until 2 years after the fact? Where’s the lie?
So, now are you going to say you weren’t actually talking about impeachment?
