Omnibus Trolls R Us Thread

I like you.

I don’t particularly care whether FJ’s thread stays open, however gauche I may find the idea of polling hypothetical rape victims. I think after ten years on this board, it takes a lot more to stir me up than it used to.

Well…I’m hoping to get into writing a novel and learning a bit about ‘controversial things’. Very open minded to many things (apparently also to bad things as some close to me have said).

Things like terrorism, mass murder, violence, etc…interest me. Don’t really have a taste for gore as some on this board might imagine but I’m just a very open
[/QUOTE]

It’s not clear if you mean to write about these things in a fantasy context (to elicit pleasure) or a realism context (to elicit awareness about how horrible they are.) I write a lot about traumatic experiences in my own fiction, including sexual assault and torture, but I consider it a sort of ethical imperative that I not exploit others’ experiences with these things by using them a mere plot device. When they occur in my novels, they are usually integral to the plot and character development.

I am curious how you would intend to use this information.

OK, sorry. I didn’t know that was frowned on.

You guys have all the fun (vs. those of us who have to, you know, get up early the next morning)…

Yes, crippling insomnia opens exciting opportunities to engage with new people.

The cornfielded thread was a hateful post by an obvious troll. Some trolls are fun. This one was not.

Well, by the time she started on Illuminati and Flat Earth Society it was a little amusing. Overall, she was a great big bag of hate though.

Have you tried liquid sublingual Melatonin? My niece has some developmental issues and needs it to sleep. But they ended up ordering too much and she gave me a couple of bottles.

I have to be careful though. I took some Sunday night after having two fitful nights of sleep even with my Trazadone. Ended up sleeping 13 hours. The previous time I did it I slept 14 hours.

I love this board.

Perhaps instead of countering trolls with recipes, we should prescribe medications for each other.

Me too.

(I have not tried liquid Melatonin. The pill form wasn’t so effective, though.)

The pills never worked for me when I tried them @ 20 years ago, but I kind of attributed that to one of two things; Either there wasn’t any (or much) Melatonin in the pills (herbal stuff has a serious issue with actually being what is on the label) or that it just didn’t work for me. So I never touched it.

Sister gave me the bottle, I thought “Didn’t work last time, but I’ll give it a shot” and slept 14 hours.

Of course, then one day that bottle falls off the top of the fridge and shatters on the floor. I wiped it up with a dish towel, getting it all over my hand. Had to go take a nap after that.

I guess I’ll go look for this stuff. Pills have never worked for me. I’ve read up and tried the lower dosages as recommended. Nada. My son also needs it for his disability. If this a better delivery system, it’s doubly worth investigating.

Chimera - could you post or PM with more details on the type of melatonin? Thanks!

This is what my sister was ordering and gave me. She made the mistake of subscribing and got flooded with the stuff.

Yeah, I was just going to post this. WTF?

You haven’t noticed that a good chunk of us have insomnia?

“We” are kind of all over the place. When you are thinking, around 12:45am, maybe you should go to bed, there is that guy in Florida, where it is a quarter to 4. We have posters in Bangkok, where it would be almost 7pm and some in England, where it is almost time for the banks to open, and so on.

The Dope never sleeps (it just keeps on going till it passes out)

And now you know the rest of the story.

That was awesome!

Yep. I freaked when it happened to me too. But who would’ve thought Dopers would be any kind of addicts?

We’re all also very cute and huggable.
