Just for a moment, I read that as “Cosby” and had a horrible sinking feeling about all those poor women in Washington State…
No one is named in the thread title. But it does defeat the purpose of the thread to engage with trolls here. YMMV.
Let’s just fling cherries at each other for a while and hope the place clears out.
Just a humble suggestion . . .
If you feel the need to respond to something a troll posts in this thread, refer to the troll in the third person rather than the second. I guarantee that it will annoy them.
So rather than, “You suck, you stupid fucking pervert”, it’s “That stupid fucking pervert [name] sucks”.
You know, I’ve always like fresh cherries, but never cared for cherries in baked goods. Something about the consistency makes me cringe. A nice blackberry pie now, I love those. Guess what’s just starting to bud right now?
Once you’ve had fresh huckleberries, you’ll never go back to canned.

Oh, uh, then I kicked his ass!
*Skinner walks away
Now if the berries are too tart, I just sprinkle them with confectioner’s sugar.
Which, as a kid, I thought was “confectionous sugar”.
I don’t like gooey cherry pie with that godawful canned stuff. But I do love the not-gooey kind.
So I peruse the store ads to see who has the cheapest prices each week, and once they get down to 1.99 a pound I buy them in quantity, stem them, and freeze them with stones, assuming I’m too lazy to pit them which is usually the case. Eat them by the bowl frozen for months.
Same here. That gooey crap in cherry pie is awful. But then (heresy, I know), I don’t really care for pie. Unless it’s apple, warmed, with vanilla ice cream.
The gooiness in cherry pie doesn’t come from using canned over fresh, it comes of the baker putting in too much thickener (cornstarch usually, or sometimes tapioca). In their defense, it is hard to reach that perfect spot between too juicy so that it runs all over the plate and so gooey that it doesn’t run at all; some cherries are just more juicy than others. My mother made the best cherry pies ever, but even she missed this once in a while. The good thing was that that she always erred on the too-runny side.

This thread just got quite amusing, what with that bigoted jerk fj whinging about prejudice. What more proof is needed of his reason for being here?
My mother was a fantastic baker, and I often hold up baked goods to hers as a standard. Maybe it’s just because that’s what I grew up with, but others outside my family have said the same thing. But I hated her cherry pie. And I’ve never had one that I liked. As I said, though, I’m generally not a pie guy. I love blueberries, but don’t care for blueberry pie. I love peaches, but don’t care for peach pie. Other than apple pie, I’ll take cake for dessert any day.
My grandfather had two huge cherry trees in his backyard (with a rope swing hanging from one of them). My brother and I would pick a big bowl of cherries (the ones we didn’t stuff in our mouths) and bring them in to grandma. She would bake pies for us. She even rolled out her own crusts . Mmm mmm, fresh cherry pie, hot from the oven!
His house also overlooked some railroad tracks. My brother and I would hear the trains coming and run down to the fence and wave to the engineers. They almost always waved back. We’d watch until the caboose passed. They didn’t have noise restrictions back then that kept the engineers from blowing the horn.
We also found nice white onions to tie to our belts, which was the fashion at the time.
I absolutely agree about blueberries and peaches. But when, except in a pie, are you going to eat sour cherries?
Other favorite pie, besides apple, is mincemeat.
A few months off for the apples. I like the subtle flavor of Fujis best.
He is Irish, yet he lived in the States, yet his first language is NOT English…so yeah…he knows the impact.
Sour cherries are the bestest. We had a sour cherry tree when I was growing up and I would gorge myself on them. YUM!
I’ll take a good slice of Banana Cream, but it has to be really fresh.
Favorite pies:
Chocolate cream
Lemon sour cream
Mixed berry
Grasshopper (without so many bugs in it)
