On election Eve, Freepers hit a new low

It’s OK; I divorced my whole family 10 years ago. She was a bitterly unhappy woman for 97 years. But thanks, of course, I do actually appreciate the thought.

–Oh and, my grandfather just died a couple months ago, so she didn’t spend much time alone.

Well, for five and a half years he couldn’t lift or eat babies. (my one and only time during this election I get to do that).

As I said in another thread, they’re scared, angry and confused. They’re watching power slip away from them. They’re watching as the entire country prepares to turn its back on the right-wing ideology of hate and lies. They’re watching the Vice Presidency (and then Presidency) of Sarah Palin, appointed by God himself to lead them, disappear in front of their eyes. They’re lashing out like evil toddlers. It’s gonna get much much worse over the next couple of days.

I am gonna have SO much fun watching the meltdown!
lissener, I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother too. It’s a shame she turned her back on you.

Well, they’re close, it does prove someones a bad person.

The kernel of truth is that in the end game of cancer you have to decide how much painkiller to administer. The question is, do you give enough to ensure some level of comfort even if that means giving enough that it will be stressing the patient’s organs and prossibly shortening the patient’s life? If you give only the maximum recommended dosage for the painkillers, at some point it may not be enough to mask the pain.

This is one of the questions that are usually answered in any advance directive, or living will. You can specify ahead of time, if you have a terminal disease, whether the goal is maintaining your comfort or prolonging your life. The two goals can be at odds with each other near the end.

Other questions found in an advance directive include whether or not to administer CPR, or other procedures, if breathing or heartbeat stops; whether to install a feeding tube; and whether to attach a ventilator. I’m sure there are a few more that I’m forgetting. None of the answers to these questions are euthanasia, they’re just the withholding of heroic measures or drug restraints to preserve a life that is going to end soon. But that’s the kernel.

Not with the first-past-the-post, winner-take-all system we have now. See Duverger’s law for a more in-depth analysis of this, but the only thing a large third party could do with the system we have is spoil the election for one of the two main parties. If you want America to have viable third parties you have to push for a reform in our voting system because it is guaranteed that nothing else will be sufficient.

Back to the Freepers: Their bleating sounds suspiciously like the old conspiracy theorist fallacy that if someone benefits from something, they must have caused it: The Jews benefited from the Holocaust by getting Israel and making antisemitism socially unacceptable, so the Jews must have caused it. Yes, there are people who really believe precisely that. The Bush administration benefited from 9/11, so they must have caused it. I benefited from being conceived, so… damn it, my brain broke.

I wonder how many Freepers believe in 9/11 conspiracy theories.

What “spread?” Aren’t they the same site?

Derleth - If things go really south for the Republicans, it will be the hard-core far-rights who are the “third party.” Having that group marginalized is A Good Thing.

Right. Er, I agree. I was responding to the (apparent) perception that three viable parties are possible in the system we have.

Ah.

[Emily Litella]Never mind.[/EL]

I’m really, really glad all this crap is over tomorrow. It’s hitting new lows.

Word! As a moderate conservative, I absolutely despise the Free Republic, Ann Coulter-reading dipshits. I can’t actually imagine being able to post without electocuting themselves with keyboard drool. I HATE it when liberals lump me in with the neanderthals, but in all honesty, I can’t blame them for doing so. A third party populated by moderate conservatives would be an excellent compromise and the freepers could be relegated to Tivo’ing Larry the Cable Guy routines on Fuckhead Island while leaving the more productive members of society to forge ahead.

Drain, you provided a direct link to the Freepers without any “Shields Up!” advisory, or any suggestions for anti-cootie protocols.

Whatzamatta you? There are some very young and impressionable Puppy Dopers out there, who haven’t yet formed the psychic chitin to endure such horror. And some of them take drugs!

A bit of caution, sir, a bit of caution!

This made me laugh out loud. I’m still chuckling. It’s been a long, long election.

I remember people waving pre-printed “Impeach Clinton” almost immediately appear after the election was called in Bill Clinton’s favor (the first time). They weren’t kidding, as it turned out.

I sometimes go over there to check it out-it’s like an “aquarium of stupid”, as I told someone else. Quite amusing. They were also very approving of the woman who wouldn’t give candy to kids of Obama supporters.

I was watching a documentary about Barry Goldwater this morning (as much as I disagreed with his politics, I have to admit, I find him a fascinating individual). These people make him look like Tip O’Neill! At the very least, I think these people’d scare the shit out of him.

Are you sure about that? This doesn’t look like a photoshop job to me.

In all fairness, I have seen equally foul slanders posted on DailyKos and Democratic Underground. This excuses nothing on Free Republic or Little Green Footballs, of course. The nutroots on either side are pretty pathetic.

We call them “Democrats”.

Psychic chitin? I like it! It has a nice ring to it. Dare I say?

BAND NAME!

Band name if I ever heard one.
