Yeah, but the majority of DKos regulars have trusted user status and can troll rate shitty comments and make them go away by popular opinion. I’ve seen winger trolls come over, wait their week making fairly innocuous comments until they’re eligible to post diaries, then post something scheisty–only to get hide rated, slapped around and in some cases banned in a matter of hours, if not minutes. There are days I wish for being able to hand out donuts around here…

DKos diarists and bloggers get their posts to appear in the main page when vetted or recommended by management or by many users.
For the Brother here, finding the musings of a rotten poster there that is virtually never put in the front page and is usually [del]tarred[/del] tagged as dumb by other Kossacks may be easier to find but an stupid example to mention if their posts never appeared in the main page.
Seems unstructured, anarchic, and pretty darn smart. Reminds me of the Quaker tradition of seeking meeting consensus.

Yeah, DailyKos is pretty cool–trusted user status is gained only by participation. You have to comment and/or post diaries that are recommended by other members. It’s called “mojo” and nobody really knows how much mojo one needs to keep trusted user status. If you stop commenting and posting diaries, TU status will just quietly slip away until you become an active member again, WITHOUT pissing people off. Get a lot of hide ratings (also called troll ratings or donuts–a recommend is a plus four, a hide rating is a zero, a comment ends up with the average of all recs/hides as its overall mojo score) and that will also pull your TU status down. Trusted users can see troll comments and can troll rate comments as well. It’s all about cooperation and getting along–making your points without being a cunt. It’s quite possible to post dissenting opinions, even strongly dissenting opinions, but still remain unbanned and still having TU status, you just have to be fucking polite about it and back up your bullshit with some facts. Pretty similar rules to here, but everybody who cares enough to be an active participant can join in with modding the site. It works pretty well, actually.
