Or those long-term stealth Democrats like, say, Michelle Bachmann who pretended to be Republicans and ran for office as one just so they could say things this year to make the Republican party look batshit crazy.

Bull fucking shit. I have no more control over another persons posting than you do. I do know, however, that I’ve routinely called out folks for insanity, even (and indeed often especially when) they’re on ‘my side’. And I ain’t alone in that.

What I mean is that the Freepers’ hatefulness is created whole-cloth from their warped little imaginations whereas hateful things said about them are as a direct result of what they’ve actually said – not what we imagine they might say.

This Northeastern liberal, having come of age at a time when stalwarts like Frank Sargent and Eliot Richardson defined Republicanism for me, hopes powerfully that you moderates will get control of the GOP.
Unfortunately, given that the party apparatus is firmly in the hands of the hard-righters who’ve made it their business over the last few decades to purge as many moderates as they can, I don’t see it happening.

Glad you brought that up, cuz it was a hoax. Never happened. Secret service investigated, listened to tapes, interviewed and concluded it was a hoax. Kind of ironic, because it’s a precise example of what the OP was complainingabout, except this was a far more public and damaging myth. Like I said, the Freepers are strictly Bush league compared to what I routinely see here.
