Along the “loony fringe” line of thinking…the boss’ wife was in today and I could hear her talking to one of my coworkers about Obama. She’s still under the impression that he’s a muslim and is scared for the country if he’s elected. For one thing, she’s worried that because her husband owns this business, their taxes will go up under Obama. I heard the word “Allah” in there somewhere, but I didn’t hear the context.
She’s wrong about the taxes. This company’s revenue is around $7m, the net income (TAXABLE income) is around $125K. As the bookkeeper here, I know her husband doesn’t make anywhere near $250K. Wouldn’t the company and their family be better off with Obama’s tax plan (if it passes, of course)?
I’m just trying to make it through the day without any of the owners (who are all family and mostly Republican) trying to discuss politics with me.

For the most part any “hateful” speech here is targetted at other posters, who are free to defend themselves.
Any “hateful” accusation levied at a public figure is generally met with a hearty, “Cite!”, just as **Scylla **is doing right now.

And we may have a younger demographic, but individually, there is hardly a mandate for the youth here. There are plenty of old fuckers like us here.

I think there’s a big difference between calling someone names and accusing someone of killing their own grandmother for an election advantage, not to mention wishing death on another.
Bit of a misrepresentation there - a reporter from the rival paper (to the one that broke the story) interviewed some of the SS agents and Palin supporters and none of them remembered hearing it. The right wing media is calling that evidence of a hoax; the mainstream and lefty media are… well, mostly ignoring the story, apparently, although some are admitting that the story is now doubtful.

It does sound like the SDMB, but just like that Star Trek episode where Spock had a beard. There is very little ignorance being fought here politically. Sorry. Just yesterday Der Trihs told me how Conservatives have racial hatred as their core belief, in GD nonetheless. Nobody challenged it.
It’s pretty common. Again, I hung out there for 6 months. I could have been king. However, I prefer the intellectual challenge of hanging out where my opinions and arguments are challenged, not where I’m the leader of an overwhelming majority.
I hate to tell you this, but it’s perfect provincialism. If anything, the lefty political shit stinks more here, than the righty stuff does there. Lefty posters don’t get attacked as overwhelmingly with such naked hostility as righties do here.
