On subscribing to threads

I’m a newbie on forums in general although I have been registered on one about programming for many years. The way it handles subscriptions is:

  1. If you post, you’re automatically subscribed.
  2. If you don’t post but you are interested in the thread, there’s link at the bottom of each page “Watch this topic”
  3. When a response is posted, you receive email notification.
  4. You do not receive another until you visit the thread again.

What you think?

I am remembering to subscribe to this thread.

Welcome to the Boards!

The way VBulletin is set up, you can choose how to handle it yourself. Go to user CP and pick “edit options” – you can choose whether or not to subscribe automatically, and if you do subscribe, whether to get email updates or not, and if you do get updates, how often.

If you’re not an automatic subscriber, you can subscribe to any particular thread – with or without posting in it – by clicking on the “thread tools” dropdown.

Me, I’m a “few subs, no notifications” kinda gal …

Easy enough. Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I’ll just deal with the multiple notifications although why not just limit it to one?

Dunno – that’s the way VBulletin set it up.

If you’re getting deluged with emails, you could change your notification setting from “instant” to “daily” – depending on how active the thread is, that could cut it down significantly.
