I disagreed with the judges this week. Carrie Fisher did a complete 180 and is now the Simon of the show. I suspect the judges watch and rewatch the films before the show, which probably skews their opinions, but also gives them a lot more to say.
As usual, time shifting makes a big difference. When I saw them fresh, I thought Zack and Shalani did great. Perhaps Zack is making a subtle jab at the time-shifting nature of the show itself.
I used to think Carrie Fisher was the show’s Paula Abdul. I was mistaken. Carrie is worse than Paula because at least Paula doesn’t actually *have * opinions. “Oh, noes! Oh please don’t send me moral messages. It makes me sooooo uncomfortable!” I mean damn. It’s not like the movie was about giving your life to Jesus or anything. It was a simple universal message that everybody from atheists to Christians to Satanists could agree with.
I was disappointed that Mateen didn’t get booted after he submitted a drama instead of a horror movie, but whatever.
I thought Carrie and the guest judge were on the mark with their criticism of that dreadful, preachy, incoherent “message” movie. I think Garry Marshall is way too invested in promoting woman directors. ( Wonder why he didn’t show up for the boot this week?)
And Adrianna was back to showing skin. She ought to work with her talents.
What exactly WAS the point of the preachy movie? When the woman put the sunglasses on, what was it she was seeing? The future? The future as it could be? The past? I did NOT understand.
I have the feeling we might be losing two women directors next week…
She was seeing people as they really are. Sort of a Shallow Hal thing. Before, she had judged people by their appearances. The homeless cripple. The hot guy. Her cool friend. With the glasses, she saw a kind-hearted man, a clumsy idiot, and a hateful bitch. It was about judgmentalism.
Personally, I think that anybody who shows someone with a cane “really” dancing with joy should be beaten with that cane. It makes me think of my mother, formerly the most active woman in the world, hobbling around on her cane, and believe me, she is not dancing on the inside.
Well, yeah, but it still sucked. And it didn’t have to - it could have been done much more subtly but she just beat us over the head with it.
I have grown to hate Carrie. She said what I was thinking about the message move, but she even made that sound bad to me. During the show I wished Carrie would put those sunglasses on and look at Gary Marshall and he’d be Cthulthu and he’d eat her. Then the sunglasses would drop and the show would go on with her bloody leftovers in the chair and everyone would just pretend it didn’t happen and laugh when Gary Marshall burped a little bit of her lacy sequined monstrosities of wardrobe and would say “oops!” all childlike and innocent and then throw it to the crowd.
If we were going on simply this weeks movies, then I actually thought Shalani and Zack’s were the weakest, although Zack’s was pretty good. I just liked the other three better. However, going on overall performance so far I would definitely keep Zack and get rid of the dark haired girl (Can’t remeber her name).
