It’s a very accurate characterization of your “debating” style, which is one of the major reasons that you’re nearly universally despised and ridiculed here. Well, that and your stupidity and dishonesty.
Sure, it’s fair. This is the pit, the one place where I finally get to say this when I usually just think it. I actually think it’s great that folks are willing to ‘fight ignorance’ on this board, no matter how long it takes.
But I always keep a careful eye out for people who seem to want to keep showcasing these views in a forum like the pit. If you are honestly just fighting the good fight with facts and science, then you should be able to do that in GD.
I’m projecting here, sure, but that’s ok. I had a good friend who was Hebrew. He used to let a certain website drive him crazy with their antisemitism comments. He and I used to argue about it all the time. I couldn’t convince him that these people were fucking coo coo. It’s like typing up a long well reasoned response to someone who believes that cats are people. I never did convince him. But, hey, he is Jewish, so maybe it effected him on some emotional level I couldn’t see. It would have been much weirder if I had been the one to keep bringing it up, and typing out long responses and highlighting the antisemitic ravings on the front page of the forum over and over. I wouldn’t be surprised if he cocked his eyebrow at me if I started doing that. So that’s all I’ve really done at you. Cocked an eyebrow.
Fair enough. We all approach these kinds of things differently. I try not to analyze people’s motives, because you can never really know for sure what someone’s thinking, regardless of what they’re saying, so I’ll conclude with saying that you’re incorrect about my motives and beliefs.
It is my position that we haven’t a clue. Anyone who thinks we do is probably lacking in some of those alleles.
Ok, so you agree then that the “IQ-boosting alleles did not penetrate Africa” hypothesis is not inherently implausible?
Lol, they are probably lacking in the alleles for self-deception in order to have socially acceptable beliefs.
Yeah, my heart isn’t really in the accusation anymore. I’m sure your motives are perfectly pure.
It’s this. Some days it gets to you more than others.
Heck, the difference between an “advanced” society (let’s say for the sake of argument, a modern liberal democracy) and a “primitive” one (let’s say for the sake of argument, the Tapirapé) is… I dunno… four hundred years? In that time, a sufficiently determined society could go from bupkus to space shuttles, and that’s only fifteen to twenty human generations, barely a blip in evolutionary terms.
I’m gonna need some actual genome-cites, i.e. somebody finds one or more intelligence genes and demonstrates that they are more prevalent in some particular racial group, itself defined genetically.
You would be wise to wait on multiple independent replications.
Genetics is filled with one time associations or lab-specific associations. People operate on some extremely simplistic notions of how our genes are expressed and affect our behavior. Probably much of it is derived from the successes with metabolic genes, some cancers, etc., but this just has not been the case for normal variation in behavior. Despite the energy put into it, it’s not been the case for distinct differences in behavior such as that seen between mental illness and normal behavior.
WTF? Apparently you do have a a canine that cares. Messi just won his fourth consecutive Ballon d’Or in the world’s most popular sport – guess what ‘color’ he is as well as the ones who placed second and third?
PS-by your nick I can see you are a fan of a US based sport such baseball – well then, let’s look at swimming, tennis, cycling, motorsports in general, golf, skiing/Winter Olympics, volleyball, handball, rugby, hockey, X-Games in all/most its facets, etc. and let me me know where your “best athletes” are.
Surely you must realize that being “black” has little to do with being good at sports – but rather the sport and the social/cultural conditions that surround it. i.e. basketball, baseball, American football & T&F. Where you’ll still find plenty of ‘other-race’ superstars.
It is interesting that the top class white NBA players are all from foreign countries. Where are the white American Steve Nash’s, Dirk Nowitzki’s, Gasol brothers?
Something else is going on here besides genetics.
For that matter, the best European and Japanese sprinters are faster than all but the fastest black Americans. The Jamaicans, on the other hand, are in a class of their own. Maybe there’s a Jamaican race that’s got better genetics than the rest of us. (j/k)
Agreed, but genetics is also “going on here.”
He says with zero evidence. Does genetics factor into the ethnic makeup of professional tennis and hockey, or do only certain sports (that is, conveniently, the ones with black people at the top) show the “real” genetic differences between ethnic groups?
PLease. These are sports that require a great acquired skill set. Speed is not like that. You are either fast or you aren’t. Everyone knows how to “run as fast as you can”. Not everyone knows how to put topspin on a backhand as you aim for the baseline. Yes, people can become faster. But any look at the speed positions in football and the best sprinters in the world surely indicates that genes are a big factor.
Oh, and as far as your claim of “zero evidence” looking at those speed positions and the list of the world’s fastest humans IS evidence. I think you keep conflating evidence with proof.
Well also there are opportunities for fast people (or at least for fast men) all over the world to compete at a world class level if they have the talent. And indeed, world class male sprinters herald from many different parts of the world. But for some reason, they are almost all of African descent whether they are from the United States, Europe, Canada, Nigeria, or Jamaica.
The only reasonable explanation for all this is that there is some subset of black people which – in general and on average – has a small genetic advantage in running short distances very quickly. An advantage which becomes more and more obvious as you reach the tails of the distribution.
Probably this fact would be pretty much uncontroversial if it weren’t for Leftists who subconsciously realize that conceding genetic differences in sprinting ability is a step towards conceding genetic differences in cognitive ability.
Ahh, so football and basketball are less “skill set” oriented sports then tennis- so the ethnic breakdowns of football and basketball show genetic tendencies, but tennis doesn’t.
What baloney.
We don’t know enough about the genetics of intelligence (whatever intelligence even is) to rule out many hypotheses, that one included. But, as many of have said over and over again, a hypothesis is the beginning of scientific inquiry, not the end.
If we find such alleles in non-Afrian populations and find that they are largely absent from sub-S African populations, then we have a scientific finding. Right now, we don’t have such a thing. This is just regular ol’ science. Nothing remarkable about it. Few people will dispute such a finding once it survives the peer review process.
Sure, but it’s a tangential question. What we do have is overwhelming indirect evidence that the observed racial gap in cognitive ability is due in large part to genetic differences.
It has been argued, in effect, that such a conclusion must fail without a plausible explanation for how such a difference might have arisen. Ok, a few such explanations have been offered and you concede that at least one of them is not inherently implausible.
Whether the hypothesis I have offered will ultimately prove correct or not is an interesting question but as noted above it’s a side question.
I don’t claim to know how cognitive differences among races came about; I don’t claim to know what specific genes and alleles are involved. But I do know that the differences exist and are in large part driven by genes.
No we don’t.
Obvious goal-post shifting so you can pretend to claim “victory”. You have no evidence, which has been the whole point of this thread (and just as a reminder, you pretend to ignore me, but decided to post over and over again in the thread I started).
What you think you know has no bearing on reality. You have no evidence for your hypothesis. You are a silly person.
