Does anybody with a functioning brain think that it is coincidence that Russia invaded Georgia while Dub was on his much publicized trip to Beijing?
Russia makes their statement that they intend to make the USA the number 3 superpower while our lame duck “Idiot in Chief” is looking at volleyball asses.
We’re locked down in Iraq while the real powers that want to bring us down are exploiting the idiocy of the Bush administration, thumbing their nose at us and telling us to bend over. Georgia was the hope for Western style government in the area and now the crooks in Moscow are rubbing our nose in shit because we can’t challenge them.
So Dub returns to Washington and makes a meaningless speech. The only thing he’s really pissed off about is that he couldn’t go directly to Crawford, TX and go to sleep for the month of August like he has in the past.
I think it was much more likely to coincide with the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, regardless of whether Bush was there or not. Do you think Bush being in China would have changed the US response?
Yes, they may have proceeded if Dub was in Crawford but the fact that he was in Beijing trying to get some positive spin made it a lot better for the Ruskies. Fact is, this stuff is very calculated. Moscow fully intended to do it when they would get the least amount of media attention (read: during the Olympics and Dub played into it). The Bushies had to have known that it would happen yet they played to the cameras instead of attending to business.
Obviously this problem calls for unilateral military action on our part. We desperately need some fresh thinking in Washington that will not mindlessly repeat the most grevious mistakes of the Bush administration and finally do something about despots you can make a lot of vague historical comaprisons to Hitler with.
Thanks for pointing that out, Sparty!
BTW, Putin was also in Beijing for this little soiree, so if a leader can excuse himself from invading a nation to attend the opening ceremonies in Beijing, presumably President Bush isn’t required to maintain an entirely symbolic 24 hour call at the White House at the expense of diplomacy to other important nations.
The situation in Georgia is devoid of good actions to take on our part. Grumbling about Bush being at the Olympics when it started is rather doltish, uninspired, and shopworn for the Dope bitching on the part of the OP.
In the silver lining department - maybe this will mean that the neocon.s and their ilk will stop yakking about how Iran is the next Nazi Germany and that islamo-terrorism is the biggest threat to world civilization evah…
Russia just did a great big, “I’ve got your threat right here, bitches.” and they know there’s not a damn thing the US can do about it save ferry the 2,000 Georgian troops out of Iraq so that they can fight in their own country.
And although it could arguably be an overreaction on Russia’s part, wasn’t Georgia’s fresh offensive on South Ossetian rebels what sparked the Russian action? If Georgia had not attacked in South Ossetia, Russia would not have invaded. It doesn’t seem like the timing of Bush’s trip to Beijing was in Russia’s calculations.
God, what a crock of shit. Do you have any idea what’s going on in Georgia, at all? It was going to happen wherever Bush happened to be at the moment, and Russia’s response was tactically designed to coincide with Georgia’s attack on South Ossetia, not the fucking Olympic ceremonies.
I’m not a fan of Bush, but this is ridiculous. It’s akin to Putin saying that the US is furthering the conflict by flying Georgian troops back home from Iraq. It’s convoluted conspiracy theory nonsense. Grasp at bigger straws next time.
