Once more unto the fitting room ...

For Christmas I offered to exand mrs woolly’s wardrobe.

More correctly I gave her a nice “gift certificate” from a boutique I know she liked (price wasn’t specified) and let her select the outfit she wanted. I’ve done this before and found it works much better than picking one just the wrong size, fit, style, shade of pastel blue etc.

All in all it went well. We didn’t get the “does this make my bum look big” type questions, 'cause mrs woolly ain’t that silly. We were there for almost 2 hours and the shop kindly offered me a decent cup of coffee and a nice chair from which I could sagely nod periodically and say “very nice” or “that suits you” etc.

Now she didn’t try on every size 12 in the shop, but likely most of them. I suspect this is not an unusual occurance.

Which begs the question. Has anybody ever worked out how often, on average, a dress is tried on before it’s purchased?

I hate trying on clothes. So unless I really have a real doubt, I don’t bother trying them on. I also rarely have to take them back.

The number of times a dress is tried on is directly proportional to it’s price; the higher the price, the more times it’s test driven.
