previews promise that we will see next week why Regina hates Snow so much. Anyone want to speculate before then?
(and what happened to Jefferson after he fell? Did he go to join Katherine and the other dead characters?)
I admit I didn’t expect that Regina and Gold would be in cahoots, seeing as they generally seem to be in competition. S’pose Gold can’t resist making a deal.
Does this mean Emma believes? Will she feel any remorse over (possibly!) causing Jefferson’s end?
I suspect that his daughter’s happiness serves multiple purposes, for one (as you note) making Jefferson miserable. But the queen did also promise him that Grace would want for nothing — I can see her sticking to her part of that bargain, particularly if she could twist it to her own ends.
I wondered if she weren’t some kind of Lovecraftian monster underneath the veil, although I’m not sure why my brain immediately went there. I think you’re right that no major or semi-major female characters have unexplained HEAL counterparts.
I’m assuming that the hat Emma made worked. After all, she’s the one who’s supposed to break the curse.
Didn’t miss it; just forgot it. :o
That’s what I got out of it as well. The placement of the hat (center of the ground, facing upward) led me to believe that we were to understand that he fell into the hat and (presumably) back into Wonderland. Or – who knows? – back into HEAL. Which would probably be pretty empty about now.
I hadn’t thought of that. It would be like “The Quiet Earth.”
has Wonderland been emptied just as HEAL has? are both part of the same ‘reality’?
I don’t know. Seems safe to assume that Storybrooke is a rather small town, what with its tiny police force (any officers beyond the sheriff?). Five thousand people, maybe — but heck — the biggest city in Maine is only about 65,000 people strong, and HEAL had to have more than that. It supported multiple kingdoms, at least a few towns and cities, etc.
I’d guess the Queen took a selection of people, making sure to include everyone she most despised. (Or I’m wrong and I’m trying to apply logic to a TV show about faery tales.)
Care to share with the rest of the class?
As already mentioned he said it was his curse, but I have another notion. He knows because he’s crazy. Like the crazy people in Buffy season 5 that knew something was off with Dawn.
The magic hat thingy took them to another world. At least that was my take.
If this show continues for many more seasons we’re going to have to give it a wide birth. The first season in and they’ve already used up most of the classical characters most of us are familiar with.
I agree with this, I think the hat fell to the ground and Jefferson fell into the hat. If he’s back in Wonderland, he may never see his daughter again.
Good catch, Turek! I noticed his name was Jefferson in both HEAL and Storeybrook, but I didn’t stop to think why. Is there any other character called by the same name in both lands?
Both the queen and mayor are named Regina.
So how did the Hatter get from Wonderland to this world? Have we seen other people from Wonderland around? Also, neither Emma nor Henry have noticed the book isn’t missing the pages at the end? Great observation skills there, Sheriff.
Is it just me or did they change the book this episode? Before it seemed like the illustrations were more generic, this week they seemed almost like pictures of the actual people.
Excellent episode–we finally know why Regina hates Snow so much. Although, her change in demeanor from sweet and nurturing to vengeful bitch seemed to happen awfully fast. Not that she didn’t have reason, of course, but her anger at Snow seems misplaced when she knows Snow was just a pawn in her mother’s games. Speaking of, has Barbara Hershey become the go-to actress for playing controlling, manipulative mothers?
Katherine showing up at the end was surprising, but as others posted previously Graham was able to walk around while Regina had his heart, so I figured there was a chance Katherine was still alive.
I’m glad Emma finally knows Sydney isn’t on her side.
I thought this was a very good episode with some very good acting by the actress playing Regina. Still - Why does she focus all her anger on Snow & not on her mother, who was much more responsible for her lover’s death? I know evil, esp. in fairy tales, doesn’t have to be logical, but still.
Lana Parrilla was especially great this episode and Little Snow was perfectly cast. They’re answering the mysteries of the series in a very timely fashion. At this rate, I don’t know how they can last more than another season or two.
Yeah, it didn’t make logical sense that she would hate Snow so much. But, she was lashing out at everyone, so in her evil angry way it makes sense. And, she sure does hold on to that grudge.
Invisible Chimp, I agree about Little Snow. Oh man. I thought the little girl who played Snow White was so much like the older actress that it was amazing. She had adult Snow White’s mannerisms down really well. Especially, how she talked while she was crying. I thought that was really well done.
This was a great episode. Answering a question we have been wondering about for awhile now. I am really enjoying this show. They are doing an excellent job of telling an ongoing story, yet making each episode engaging on it’s own.
Correct me if I get anything wrong here: in the episode that Katherine disappeared we didn’t see who took her from her car. I thought it was hinted that it was the gym teacher (her former love) who opened the door but, when it turned out she disappeared he must have had nothing to do with it. So, that was just a misdirection.
Huh. Is the heart still in one piece? Who has it?
Great show. Always bringing up new questions. But, doing a good job of answering other questions.
Maybe Regina *did *hate her mother more than Snow, but did something evil and disappeared her mother, leaving Snow the only target for the ongoing hate and general evilness.
