Once Upon A Time [edited title]

Hrm, I’m not really sure how that’d work, at least for Regina as a magic-less mayor. I’m rather sure she’d be flayed alive by at least a few of the townsfolk. At the very least “We remembered that you’re an evil murdering wizardess who cursed all of us to relative misery” should be enough reason for a mid-term recall.

I suspect that the curse won’t be broken this season; the writers could reasonably get through another season as the principals begin to realize what’s going on, working (together?) toward breaking the curse. Beyond that, yeah, I agree, it easily may begin to get either thin or silly. Or both. Altering course radically (e.g. bringing everyone into Storybrooke) could work, but that kind of change-up for an otherwise established show runs the risk of alienating loyal viewers and seeming like jumping of the shark.

Speaking of things that seem thin or silly … I really, really thought that Disney’s version of Pinocchio would be the straw that broke the silliness camel’s back, but they played it off really quite well.

I have my doubts that kidnapping one’s non-custodial birth child would be a good way to further one’s law enforcement career, but what do I know? I live in a country in which someone like Joe Arpaio can be continually elected sheriff.

So, if there’s no magic where they are now:
[ol]
[li]How can they be under a curse?[/li][li]As someone asked earlier, how can Regina have people’s hearts in boxes while they’re still alive?[/li][li]Regina doing what Mr. Gold says if he uses “please.” I guess it’s a deal they struck before the curse, but it seems to be magically enforced.[/li][/ol]

I hypothesized earlier in the thread that our earth could have no magic, except (as in your third point) where the curse has made express provision otherwise. Some portion of Regina’s magic having been grandfathered in, so to speak. Makes as much sense as anything else to me. “No magic” should probably be interpreted as “almost entirely without magic” or “ordinarily having no magic whatsoever”.

Yeah, it’s about the only way this can work. Although it’s strange that Rumpelstiltskin’s sword has no power since you think that Mr. Gold would want to retain some magic of his own since Regina gets to keep some of hers.

Oh well, I’ll stop over-thinking a TV show now.

If Regina had successfully seduced David, then it would have put off Charming and Snow’s happy ending and continued the curse. Even if Emma accepts the curse is real and her role in breaking it, we have no clue how she is supposed to break it, thus continuing the show indefinitely as she searches for the answer.

I was watching The Beach this weekend, and damned if ol’ Rumpelstiltskin isn’t Daffy, the whacked out guy in the Hotel who gave LDC the map to the Island. He hasn’t changed a bit!

Who said it didn’t have any power? Perhaps Mr. Gold simply bluffed past Booth’s knowledge…

Clearly, some magic is at work - people really cannot leave - time, in fact, stood still for 28 years.

oh - the hearts that Regina has in the crypt are not the hearts of the townspeople - she specifically had the huntsman’s heart, but the rest I guess she just collected from various donors -

Emma will break the curse because that is what hero’s do - I am guessing that her simply believing will continue the ball rolling - but she started to break the curse the moment she decided to stay and stand up to Regina and time started to flow again - each week we see more and more evidence of individuals standing up - They have also repeatedly said that ‘twue wuv’ can break any curse (and/or is the most powerful magic of all) - so the curse may be broken when Regina finds it - Mary Margeret’s speach to her was very well done.

Not ‘twue wuv’, but “true love’s kiss” as I recall - I really liked that moment between Charming and Princess Abigail when she told him about her old boyfriend who got turned to gold saving Papa Midas. Charming thought about it for like a second, and then suggested “true love’s kiss?” because it’s absolutely the expected thing in that world.

I am wondering if the by then end of this season, Emma will believe and we’ll see a sign of the curse breaking. Then she will have to continue breaking the curse next season by “fixing” each story line an episode at a time.

I actually wondered if it might have been a fake sword.

If you were a Storybrooke resident and had the choice of going back to HEAL where magic still exists, or staying in mundane Storybrooke, where your life is comfortable?

In one you have a comfortable life but a somewhat overbearing mayor, but most people slip under her notice; in the other you have a life with routine magic and an evil queen who’d kill you as soon as look at you, as well as Rumplestilskin, who’d do the same.

I’d stick with Storybrooke.

StG

I’m pretty sure that she isn’t planning to return to either her job or Storybrooke.

(Though, of course, the curse will have other ideas…)

Regina: Henry? henry? Oh my god, Henry’s missing - call the sherrif!

DOH!

The “note from Henry” that Regina read to David appeared to be blank. Am I correct in assuming that Regina planted that there when David was in another room so she could get David to stay for dinner?

correct - and Henry never calls Regina ‘Mom’

That or it was psychic paper.

One vote for psychic paper! The same kind that Gold uses to keep transaction records.

Anyway. The traditional theme of obsession with beauty has seemed (relatively?) absent from this version of the Snow White antagonist. We’ve seen her use the magic mirror for spying but not, as I recall, for assuring herself that no one is lovelier than she. It occurs to me that her response to David refusing her advances — looking in a mirror and out of frustration breaking it — could be a nod to this; maybe some bruised vanity to go along with anger at a plan not working out?

Maybe she won’t give up. I think we all agree that the real-world Regina is at least 50% more attractive than the real-world Snow White. A pixie cut with that facial structure? Seriously? She’s lucky David must be attracted to 12 year old boys; no wonder he wasn’t receptive to Katherine or Regina.

…Regina… in any world is what I’d call a handsome woman. she’s not beautiful.. or cute.

Snow White?.. she’s cute.

<blatant cherrypicking>
C’mon, who’s cuter? Justin Biebette or this pretty, shapely woman just oozing with “I’m going to age well?”
</blatant cherrypicking>

I wondered about that as well, but how the writers could present Mr Gold being able to find Snow’s baby without being able to find a near-by Balefire is a mystery to me. They may have painted themselves into a corner with that one. That trouble aside, it’s certainly possible. Balefire would be considerably older than Emma, given what we know of the timeline, but we don’t really know anything about Emma’s ex-boyfriend.
The kidnapping/custodial interference seemed like a really bad move (not to mention out of character for the woman who convinced Mary-Margret to return to jail). I hope Emma comes to her senses and returns Henry before morning.
