Once Upon A Time [edited title]

I was lukewarm, but my daughter really seems to like it, so we’ll be watching it for a while…

I vaguely remember that Ginnifer Goodwin has a clause in all of her contracts that allow her to wear a wig. The article, if I recall correctly, said that she always keeps her real hair short and just wears wigs for her roles. Ah, here’s a reference to that.

J.

I am enjoying the show. I’ll keep watching to see more of the backstory. It may not be the best new show, but at least it’s not another cop show.

Um…re: Goodwin, I assumed both by her name and her haircut and profession that she is a nun in the ‘real world’ scenario. Never noticed the ears being weird, just…ears.

I really like Rumplestiltskin’s portrayal. His eyes were really surreal, something about the shape of the iris was wrong.

Damn, I thought I had set a season pass to record, but I guess I just set it to record the pilot. I’ll have to catch tonight’s ep online during the week.

Not sure I’ll stick with it though; I kinda liked the Grimm premier.

Tonight’s episode was really cheesy from start to finish. Not a lot of it worked for me and I think they’re moving in the wrong direction.

I think he was wearing contacts that made them look larger. Right now he’s the best thing on the show. He did stand out and things could get more interesting if they give him enough to do.

I hate that people keep mentioning these two shows in the same breath. Other than fairy tale characters being real, they have nothing in common. I do like both shows though.

I liked the second episode better than the pilot.

Grimm was okay, but it looks like it’ll be another supernatural procedural show. A monster-of-the-week show with maybe little bits of a bigger arc thrown in each episode. I liked the first episode enough to tune in again, but it’ll have to do more to hook me. Its Friday night time slot doesn’t bode well for its future.
I am really liking Once Upon A Time. The overall pacing of the current timeline is kinda slow, but the flashbacks bring in the action. I like that they are taking their time to develop the characters and story.

I’m still not sure what the mayor/adoptive mom knows. At times it seems like she knows something, but at other times it appears as though she has no knowledge of her true past. The modern Rumplestiltskin character (what’s his name in our world?) definitely seems like he’s aware of the truth.

I’m really liking the show now. I am trying to figure out what was up during the witch fight scene; was Malificent protecting the horse? If so, why? I’m not up to speed on that particular folklore.

I’ve been thinking, “Evil Queen looks a lot like Pam on True Blood”. Imagine my reaction on seeing Maleficent (?) tonight - WTH??

I really, really like Robert Carlyle, Rumplestiltskin, or rather, Mr. Gold.
He is turning into my ’ the celebrity only you find inexplicably hot’.

Fixed.

Terry Pratchett did that first, and much, much better, with ‘Witches Abroad’.

Well, they answered my question of whether they were going to show other fairy tale baddies.

Though they triggered my pet peeve. I don’t know about Maine, but in WI and MN, the sheriff is a county position, and does not take orders from the mayor*. Maybe she was instrumnental for getting him elected.

The mayor definately isn’t aware of herself as the Evil Queen. She just knows there is a hole in her heart she cannot fill. That is why she adopted Henry. I think Mr. Gold is fully aware of what is happening, knows the past, present and future. He knew that Emma would put a child up for adoption and he somehow manipulated the mayor/queen to adopt him. I am looking forward to how this plays out.

N9IWP, IIRC, they outrighted stated that the mayor had been instrumental in getting the sheriff elected.

I liked the second episode better than the first. Count me among the people who think Robert Carlyle inexplicably hot. It is surpising how little he seems to have aged since The Full Monty.

I agree with zeldarae that the mayor has a hole in her heart that she cannot fill, but I am by no means convinced that she doesn’t know whence she came. If she doesn’t, it’s a pretty lame revenge. But then, it’s pretty clear that she didn’t fully understand the curse when she used it. What role Rumpelstiltskin/Gold plays here is also very much in question. It’s not clear what power he has, and it sure as hell isn’t clear what he wants.

I don’t think Snow White (Mary Margaret Blanchard) is a nun, but she’s definitely religious (she wears a cross), and is probably celibate. I think one of the reasons Emma is kinda sorta leaning in the direction of believing Henry is that she wants to believe she has a mother who cared about her, and she is attracted to the idea that Mary Margaret might be her mother. The taste for cinnamon-on-chocolate carried across the generations was a cute idea.

In my area, ABC reran the pilot before the second episode, and I noticed something extremely strange that I hadn’t seen the first time around. There was writing on Emma’s apartment front door. I managed to freeze frame the one second when any of it could be read. On my set, you couldn’t see any of the individual lines in full, but maybe you could on widescreen. The handwriting was cursive, and I couldn’t always be certain what I was reading, but here is what I could see:

Day 302.5 foyer 192.19
sexton(? section? cortion? difficult word to read) 304.1 opening 26
302.6 entrance cast a spell
865.8 fascinate 650.6 cap(?)
spellbind cast a spell by(?)

Neither Emma nor Henry paid any attention to this writing at all. I’m not sure they could see it.

I saw that writing on Emma’s door also. I thought they would allude to it at least. Nothing said just yet.

As to the queen and the curse…her entire motive for the curse was Snow White to not have a happy ending. She didn’t care really how it affected her. She did love her power, but her need for revenge went way beyond that. I think it perfectly plausible that she is just as much in the dark as everyone else in Storybrook.

One thing that really bugged me was the mayor telling Emma that her favorite apple was the Honey Crisp then proceeding to hand her what appears to be a Red Delicious, acting as if it was a Honey Crisp. Now usually I’m not too terribly picky about things like that, but dammit, Honey Crisp is my favorite kind of apple. They are most definately not a deep red color.

I totally disagree with you on the count of the Queen/Mayor knowing… Her conversation with Rumplestilskin/Mr Gold at the end proved it. She was totally aware this is all part of her curse, but she was trying to find out if Mr Gold is aware. I also think everyone is missing the fact that the Queen/Mayor is not aware of who Emma truly is…she knows Emma is Henry’s mother, and she knows Mr Gold found Henry for her to adopt. But the Quenn/Mayor has no idea Emma is the daughter of Snow/Mary Margaret and Charming/John Doe.

Mr Gold is totally aware of what is going on. The gleam in his eyes when he meets Emma at Granny’s B&B. And now we know he arranged Henry’s adoption. I believe he knows EXACTLY who Henry is!!! Especially Henry’s soul!!

I am surprised no one has made any comments on the “Lost” things in the pilot. 108 is the Mayors address, the curse was totally the smoke monster, and I read somewhere that on a car in the pilot there was a “Geronimo Jackson” bumper sticker. I was hoping someone could find the easter eggs in episode 2 for me…I am horrible about finding them

The only way for it to make sense that the Queen/Mayor has knowledge of the curse is if she is not aware of Snow White’s child returning in 28 years to save everyone. Perhaps Rumplestilskin kept that bit of info from her. If she knew surely she would be keenly aware of the clock ticking. You would think it would have dawned on her just who Emma is when the tower clock resumed functioning.

Oh well, I think we’ll find out soon enough either way.
