Once Upon A Time - Oct 14, 2012 - "Lady of the Lake"

I’m about halfway through this episode and… what the hell is up with Emma? She’s acting like a complete moron.

How much ammo did she bring?

Clearly not enough. For future reference, when visiting HEAL, you need a semi-automatic pistol or maybe a revolver (pistol’s probably the better choice), a semi-automatic shotgun, a scoped semi-automatic rifle, all the ammo you can carry, and some knives and such as well.

It is a pretty dangerous place, isn’t it? Storybrooke is a peaceful paradise in comparison.

On arrriving back to storybrooke -

Charming: Snow! I told you I’d always find you - How was your travels?

Snow: Well, on the first day we were thrown into a pit, walked back home, battled an ogre, almost got killed by a vengeful princess and battled cora - Regina’s much more powerful mom. How was yours?

Charming: Well, I got Henry off to school, walked around a bit then played swordfight with Henry. Oh yeah - found out that Henry skipped school to play in Regina’s tomb.

Henry: Well, I skipped school, had a long talk with Jeffster and helped him re-unite with his daughter and almost got bit by a wierd 2 headed snake thing.

Emma behaved rather foolishly, didn’t she? “These horrible ogres we’re trying to avoid hunt by sound. Sooo … To get these people to stop bickering, I’ll fire my gun into the air!” I could almost forgive it if she’d followed with “this is my boomstick”, but alas.

Not sure I follow how the King Arthur legend relates to everything else. Is there a fairy tale version of medieval Britain somewhere?

Well, there was the 1963 Disney version of White’s The Sword in the Stone. With that realization, much like I mentioned bringing in Pixar properties last week, watch out for hungry stuffed bears.

1: Emma was annoying as hell.

2: In the movies was Mulan a great warrior type? I mean, other than a few snippets in the film we never really see her kick ass (unless I’m forgetting, which is very possible). I thought Mulan’s greatness was using her intelligence as a weapon.

One of the points of the episode was for Emma to be out of her element so that Snow could protect her and let Emma learn a new respect for the school teacher - up until then, Emma thought ‘she’ was the badd ass.

Loved seeing that Ogre tho - that was great stuff.

I thought all the parenting bits were well done (even if some of them were a bit obvious), especially the brief flash at the end of the nursery in full color with a baby’s laughter playing over it. If they’d have drawn that scene out any further, it would have been too much, but I think as it was it was a great illustration of Snow taking the briefest of moments to mourn all the years she’d lost, then getting on with the work that had to be done.

I really didn’t like Lancelot. The actor had no charisma and just sounded like he was reading a script and not acting. That took me out of this episode pretty badly.
