Once Upon A Time question (possible spoilers)

So I’m watching the first season of OUAT on Netflix and am quite enjoying it but there is one big thing that’s bugged me. According to the story so far, the events in storybrooke are happening 28 years after the events in the enchanted forest and time has essentially stopped for them. The people are clearly not 30 years older.

How is it then that Henry was adopted as an infant and is now 10? Is this ever explained? I just watched the episode with Red and Peter so please don’t tell me too much in the way of plot relevent points past that time.

Its some form of stasis - it is better explained in season 2 and there is an episode coming up that gives a little more insight as well - but its still “just what it is”

Fair enough. It’s something I can overlook even though it seems like a plot hole that he’s more or less immune to the stasis and no one seems to notice. I’ll keep watching either way.

I never saw that as an issue - the time stasis was a facet of the curse, and as a child born in our world, (but to a mother who was born in HEAL,) Henry wasn’t much affected by the curse.

That’s what I’ve been going with. Does that mean that he ages, changes grades and the like but no one else does? For example, hansel and gretel are the same age as they were in the forest.

In the show, there is a comment by Regina that she changed Henry’s diapers - so, somehow time moved forward to him and he really wasn’t aware of anything - another quote from within the show was that no-one really remembered anything prior to being there - so its possible that Henry was just never ‘aware’ of the machinations of the curse - he grew and ‘remembered others growing’ like normal - other than the clock never changing.

His memories were constantly being updated or something.

Of course - my thought was that Henry was adopted at about the age of 10 and his memories reset to match Regina’s world view.

The constantly updating memories make sense. Like how Cinderella/Ashley has been a pregnant 18 year old for going on 30 years.

Or, it could also shed new light on how Henry was SO sure there was a curse. He noticed himself changing, but no one else.

The timeline in both Storybrook and Happy-Ever-After-Land (HEAL) is quite messy, no matter how much hand-waving you do. Trying to figure it out occupied us for a while in the season-long thread from last year. You might want to read it slowly as you watch the episodes.

I’ll do that. I’ve been avoiding other threads about the show since I hadn’t gotten very far. (Did a bit of a marathon last night)

It’s called Anti-Bart Simpson syndrome.

A [del]wizard[/del] evil queen did it.
