Need a quickish answer.
Bought a hand of bananas, Wednesday.
Put them on the banana hangy thing.
Yesterday, #1 banana was separated at a peely seam.
Today 2 more.
Ok.
Are these banas safe to eat?
Why did they do this?

You mean they…split?
Heh! According to how you mean split
They stayed home. The peel split at the seam.
Yes.
The sooner the better…they’ll go brown quicker.
Because they can !
What number bananas do you buy? I prefer number fours myself.
#6 is perfect. But I buy a hand (never heard that term before) of 5 or 6 at a time to make it through the week. Usually pick a 2-3 at the store and may end up with a 7 by Friday.
Once in awhile my wife and I will buy a larger bunch and she will save a couple to ripen to “off the chart” to make banana bread or chocolate chip banana muffins.
I buy 5s but I like them somewhere between 6 and 7 to eat. To me, 5 and 6 look about the same there.
You may well know this, but some people are surprised to find that bananas point up on the tree, not hang down, as in Beck’s banana hangy thing.
Also, if you are careful and the fruit not too ripe, you can easily split it into three neat sections longitudinally.
I prefer to eat them at 4 or 5. Five is perfect. Riper bananas have more flavor, but I’m not wild about banana flavor, and i like the firmer consistency of less ripe bananas.
Beck, I’d certainly eat those bananas (except they are almost certainly riper them i prefer) but my food safety standards are a lot looser than yours. I’ve eaten such bananas, and it never occurred to me to worry about them.
(Unless they sit someplace where raw chicken juice might have splashed into them, or something. Then they might actually be unsafe.)
Bad, bad, bad
Bought bananas today and brought them home.
Some hour later I separated them, and noticed that one was split. I remembered this thread, so I ate it immediately. It was between a 4 and 5, and I prefer a 6.
I hope you didn’t Die…Cap.
Brought down by Split banana would be a terrible obit.
The grandson ate mine. And are still causing trouble. I suppose it’s safe to eat split bananas.
Banana split sounds more fun though.
Yay! Someone got it.
