Glad to hear that Simon is doing some better, BooFae; keeping he and his family in my thoughts and prayers.
I decided to try to make scalloped potatoes to go with the rib roast for dinner today, so they’re in the oven now. I used the slicer on the box grater to slice the potatoes (N.O.T., of course!) so they sliced up nice and thin. I added some thinly sliced onion, salt and pepper, sifted flour and then dotted them with butter; I continued with a second layer, doing the same, and finally adding a quart of half and half at the end. The half and half came right up over top the potatoes just nicely, then I added about 3/4 cup of grated gruyere cheese. The N.O.T’s are baking in a 350 degree oven but are not quite browned yet. We are also having steamed asparagus and parkerhouse rolls.
My son heads back to NM at 3 AM on Sunday; at least he’ll have plenty of food to take with him this time! It’s been great having him here and he did get a chance to visit his granddad in Philadelphia, thankfully.
Hope everyone else is just relaxing and chilling out over the holidays. To those who are forecast to get the storm tomorrow - be careful and stay indoors if you can.
I’m sitting and digesting. Way too much food and silliness. Daughter is on her way to Orlando to hang with friends - she’ll be back midday on Monday. No idea what we’ll do the next 2 days. I’m nervous about our drive home, what with the snow they’re promising…
Hope everyone had a loverly day! Who’s crazy enough to go out shopping in the morning??
One of the regulars here is Taters. A N.O.T. is Not Our Taters, and is therefore a reference to the vegetable kind instead of the human. 'Cuz we’re nice, dammit, and not cannibals.
Had a good Christmas dinner with my hockey family, got bacon for Christmas from my parents(Yay! Woohoo!), and made it home before the snow started sticking. Hopefully we’ll close early so I can go to the game tomorrow.
I’m too damn full! We had a feast, and had WAY too many leftovers, even after sending some home with my nephew. We’ll being eating Mexican food for a week.
Hugs and smooches to all, and to all a good night!
We went out for Chinese food tonight, natch. Went to a really nice pan asian place in New Haven, Much yumminess and fullness. This morning I baked my MIL recipe for cranberry bread, which my husband remembers fondly from Christmases as a child. I try to make it for him every year.
We’re supposed to get Big Snow tomorrow. I really, really hope so. We have nowhere to be all next week, so let it snow!
I love cranberry bread - will it ship well? Or you could just climb a tall building and throw it across the Sound . . .
The coming blizzard is making me grrrrr - Unlike some of you (yes I’m looking at you, Soapy), I do not have the week between Christmas and New Year’s off. Cousin does, though, and she’s taunting me with it. grrrrr.
Of course, since Teh Sick has descended upon me, it may all be moot.
We had a lovely Christmas dinner: lasagne, garlic bread, crudités instead of salad (I was out of lettuce and I figured both kids would eat the veggies), and a simple fruit salad. I hung out with the 3-year-old while Local Best Friend and my brother watched some concert CDs and nephew watched Toy Story 3 and later joined us and played the role of annoying big brother (she has one of those, so she’s used to defending herself). We took care of her kittens (stuffed toys, thank goodness), fed them spaghetti and hot dogs with ketchup, roasted a fish and a butterfly over the “fireplace” (they’re foam puzzles), wore the puzzle frames, and then she climbed my armchair and slid off the treasure chest next to it about 100 times. We also made snow angels in the carpet. I’m tired now.
Up, but after readiing gt’s account of her day, I’m exhausted again! Actually, I’m pretty tired anyway - had a bad night. I miss my own bed and my memory foam topper. I also miss my computer with my real keyboard. I hate laptop keyboards!!
Inlaws suggested we go to Bob Evans for breakfast, which surprised me since they don’t normally do breakfast. Actually, it’ll be more like brunch since they suggested we leave aroound 9. At the moment, no one is up but Scruffy and me, so once folks get moving, it’ll get interesting - what with showers and all.
Daughter got to her friend’s safely, so that was good to hear. My MIL is terrified that she’ll be raped in Orlando, since there is a rapist on the loose there. MIL has a tendency to worry about the weirdest things. When the kid was little, MIL fretted every time she bought a Lotto ticket - what if she won and a bad guy kidnapped daughter to get ransom?? yeah… Lucky for us, they never hit it big…
It’s windy and chilly in Ocala, and according to the weather guy last night, this morning is as warm as it’ll get. Glad I brought my jacket. Yesterday was t-shirt warm. Today, not so much.
Happy Day After Christmas! Hooray for no more stupid TV ads! OK, different TV ads. Whatever. MWAH!
Nat got about fifty-three Thomas the Tank Engine Trains. He’s perfectly happy. I’m about to make breakfast and contemplating lugging the family back to church. Not sure it’s possible- Mr. Lissar was up till after one playing with his new iTouch.
We had a good Christmas. rosie, I’m really sorry you’re sick.
We are supposed to get…maybe 1/2 inch of snow. We’re going to the zoo tonight to see the lights again. (Brother and nephew haven’t seen them, yet.) It will be fun.
I’m planning to do laundry and maybe knit - I know, shocking - and possibly watch a movie or something.
Back from breakfast - we went to Cracker barrel instead of Bob’s. It was nice. But it’s cold and damp and icky out - a great day for a fire - too bad there’s no fireplace here!
