(Old) One last shot of white stuff in the MMP

I break mine in half so I can fit it in a smaller pot. The water comes to boiling faster and it tastes the same whether it’s long or short.

And, no big surprise here, my eyes continue to deteriorate as old age progresses. He’s thinking I’ll need the cataracts done when I’m 75, so 3 more years. He said insurance won’t pay till 20/40 (I assume corrected) and I can still correct to 20/20. Anyway, new specs will arrive in 2-3 weeks.

I also ran to Food Lion for 'nanners while I was in the area. Now I’m home (duh!) and the laundry has been hauled downstairs, sorted, and started. It’s a 3-load day. I also finished filling the dishwasher, so it’s sloshing now, too. And it’s about time for lunch. I really want to go to the new diner we found for their fish and fries, but it’s a long drive and I’ve got too much to do. Maybe next week?

As for supper - perhaps shrimp?

So sorry!

And a good late morning to all. Slept in and then did my Kroger shopping and filled up my gas tank (with the discounts from my Kroger card, it was 0.499/gallon, so I got 17.5 gallons for $8.75…welcome back to the 1970’s. Mileage was 28.52mpg, which is pretty good for doing 90% local, short, stop-n-go driving. Back home and catching up with stuff, will lunch shortly and then probably head off to the gym. This is my 1-hour treadmill day, so legs should get a good workout.

VanGo, that sounds real neat! I’m sure it will remain popular (and hopefully indestructible) .

Concur, I ignored my hernia until it started pinching my intestine closed and I ended up in the Emergency ward. Guy’s playing with fire IMHO.

boo fae, fascinating what old records can show about people, isn’t it?

FCM, that’s interesting about the heated floor. And it’s 59F here so no snow in sight… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Hope you got framed good. I suspect I’ll be about the same regarding the cataracts.

There is an excellent joke somewhere in there but damn if I can think of it…

Taters, glad your annuity is working and yay! for the back pay. And in time you’ll adapt your budget to the changes (I had to go from a paycheck every 2 weeks to a monthly cycle with 2-4 payments from different sources). It’ll be fine.

ANd need to fix some sammiches for lunch and then do some internettin’ before heading to the gym. Have a good Firday all.

Afternoon all.

The plague is definitely lessening today, which is a relief; yesterday was the sickest I’ve felt in years. I totally forgot I was supposed to be leading a meeting today, with slides ‘n everything, showing what I’ve been doing for the last month. I could have just sent a couple of holiday snaps followed by a picture of me in bed with a thermometer sticking out my mouth, but figured I’d ask to postpone instead.

I actually managed to make it to Lidl, despite the badly signed roadworks sending me on what turned out to be a completely unnecessary detour. Masked up and avoided going near anyone or touching anything I wasn’t buying, and it was quiet so hopefully I didn’t pass it on, but all the supermarkets that offered delivery wanted a full signup procedure before they finally admitted at the last step they had no delivery service available in my area.

The girl who fed the rats while I was away did offer to get me stuff, but she lives the other side of town, I felt I’d asked enough favours lately and I was low on most fresh stuff, not just one or two bits. I also would then feel really awkward about not inviting her in, but also don’t want to pass bugs around, though in the end it was actually almost sunny enough to sit outside. I even got a load of laundry done and dried on the line.

I only snap my spaghetti if I’m trying to upset Italians, which isn’t that often, but it occasionally happens.

That was the biggest adjustment for me, tho I kinda eased into it as I was working part time for several years after the first retirement. Now we’ve got 4 different paydays. Annuities deposit anywhere from the last day of the month to the 2nd of the month - depends on weekends. My pension is last working day of the month. FCD’s SS is 2nd Weds (tho we’ve been getting in the Firday before) and my SS is 4th Weds (similar Firday before.) I just need to make sure there’s enough in checking to cover the mortgage and car payment, which are the only 2 direct draws. Everything else goes on VISA. So bookkeeping is pretty easy.

Dishwasher just finished sloshing. Gonna pop it open so all will dry. I refuse to use the heated dry cycle. It’s one of my adorable quirks.

Heresy! A pox upon those who break their pasta!

Another day in the 40s, which is nice. Breakfast sandwiches to start the day, then exercise, then puzzling. I’m tempted to try another session on the NuStep, but I think I’ll wait and see if there is any fallout from yesterday and then hit it tomorrow. Erring, caution, etc.

I think she’s going to wait to see what sort of bonuses she gets for landing some major contracts before jumping off that cliff.

I’m glad the crud is starting to ease. Keep feeling better!

So I was supposed to be on the 100 Slide, but they switched me to the Mez and sent C to the slide. Which was quite busy, a bunch of stuff scanned right, but had blank RFID stickers on them, so I don’t know if it was a technical problem, or an ID10-T problem in the Sort Aisle. And there were a bunch of left on building packages today. It was cold, dreary, and drizzly on the drive home, but I’ve had a shower and oatmeal(plus a bagel), so I shall nap.

So you’re saying The Permanent Record is real? :open_mouth:

Non conformist!

Been a while for me, and I live here.

Yay for money!

Mission accomplished!

I’m sorry about the cousin, JtC.

I’m 3d printing them for the prototype. So I got to learn how to use a new (to me) tool, which I always enjoy.

Mrs. Nott went to Lowe’s and got me a dandy pair of contractor-grade knee pads. I tried them out at home, and I think they’ll work for the short part of RSB that involves putting weight on my knees. There’s still the matter of getting up after I’m down, but I think getting in shape will eventually take care of that. I sure hope so.

I’ve started a book called The House in the Cerulean Sea. As it starts out, a caseworker in the Department In Charge Of Magical Youth gets reassigned to a small island colony of such magical youth. Oh, this is a good one.

You’re the second person who’s recommended this, so I’ll give it a look.

I didn’t do pictures today. I am totally exhausted, I’ve had far too much people time in the last few days and I’m just whupped.

Your new exhibit sounds like lots of fun. Does your museum have a webpage where we could go and marvel at it? If you’d rather not get that personal I do understand?

I have heard of them but not in this climate. I’ll bet Cookie has neighbors with them, there’s enough below freezing weather there to make it practical. While I already know I’d faint if I saw their electrical bill now (10,000 sf home with an attached three car garage), I’m morbidly interested in what it will be when he’s paying to melt ice.

The vase has been thoroughly cleaned, the flyer was put in the bottom and silk flowers arranged. It’s not quite what I want (I’d rather it have a frilled collar), it looks very nice IMHO.

Hubs always grabs what he thinks they should have which is why I always laugh at this conversation. He sees the reaction to his offering compared to the reaction I get.

Do you know, I have no idea if my 8 year old car beeps at me or not. It is such habit to have my seat belt on before starting my engine that I haven’t found out in all those years.

Its always kinda vindicating when you learn that a troublesome person isn’t just a bother to you.

While I doubt any of the big family will ever say anything to cousin, he is married with two highschoolers and a middle school daughter. I’ve never seen the wive or kids without their seat belts, cousin is the only idiot in his nuclear family.

High school kids aren’t known for their discretion, I’m sure cousin has already heard it at least once.

At least cousin has many family members my age and up, we can supply him with all of the DME he needs, LOL!

I wonder if that’s how neighbor will be heating the driveway. Hmmmm. That would probably be very slow if he waited until things actually froze, he would have to turn it on as soon as the storm started. I’m sure I will find out, Harry is loving all this excitement, especially now that the Mrs won’t let him shovel snow or do anything strenuous.

Have you looked into Zenni? You can download a pic of your face and put the different frames on to see how you look.

Did she manage to stay married to either of them for at least ten years? If so, she’s entitled to half his social security (he won’t lose money for this) which could be helpful.

They were starting to discuss plans by Wednesday so they are starting to get over it. The family will help as allowed.

I’ve seen a few TV chefs wrap the noodles in a dish towel and then pull it over the corner of the counter to break the poor abused noodles into half inch bits. I usually change the channel at that point.

Spaghetti noodles also don’t fit in my favorite saucepan so I hold them upright in the boiling water and smoosh them down as they soften. No snapping noodles in MY kitchen!

All good news. I didn’t retire with the fuss and doubt you did, everything went seamlessly for me. I think feeling nervous about finances and taxes is something that most ‘merikans are doing these days, you aren’t alone.

I understand this. His world is very dark right now and doing a big clean up when you can’t really see where you are putting your hands could be kinda scary. I hope the new surgeon will be able to do both eyes at the same time, that sounds really nice.

I’m so glad, it sounds like your flu shot is helping. Keep recovering, you have ratties to play with!

So the boogers won’t have the booger texture then? :stuck_out_tongue:

It does. Federal mandates have required them since the seventies.

I’m guessing that there’s a thermostat involved.

Same with any military pensions if applicable.

Glad the plague is receding, nut

I read and messed around in the studio today, so it was total RDOS. I did get my cutting mats washed and re-stickified.Took all of 15 minutes.

Nope.

SWMBO requested snails tonight, so I’m cooking snails. I’m a little miffed. I quadruple-checked that I was ordering Very Large snails. I opened the can, and there are 24 small snails in it instead of 12 large ones. They’ll still be good (of course, because I’m making them), but I do not prefer two snails per mushroom cap.

And a good early evening to all. Back from the gym and TV watched while I ate two cheese dogs. Will have my big bowl O’Sallit a little later tonight and spend the balance of it internettin’. Signed up to referee a U10 soccer game tomorrow at 12:30pm, according to the weather wizards it should be 70F so a good day for outdoor activity.

I will never understand my bladder. Friday I had to urinate 11 times, which is way to often, and today so far I have gone…4 times. The amount of fluid consumed was approximately the same both days, so who knows what is going on down there. We’ll see what tomorrow brings…

Nut, glad you are doing better, I’ve stayed pretty much out of the sick bed the past couple of years, but it’ll catch up with me one of these days… And ggod on ya for taking precautions not to pass the bug onward.

FCM, I have the main Retirement (CSRS) at the 1st of the month, the Government 401k-thing (TSP) on the 11th, and my two annuities somewhere between the 14th and 16th, so do try to keep track of them. They all go to checking where I distribute them as needed.

Knots, rooting for you and the knee pads.

JtC, glad you decided to preserve the flyer. And I get the occasional beep when I start the car before putting the seat belt on, but I never put the car in drive without it clicked.

flyboy, so it’s a fast Mercedes-Benz meal tonight (S-Car Go!).

And time to get the green salad mix out, add tomatoes and croutons and Fat Free Ranch to it and graze. More later if I get to it.

Howdy Y’all! It was a very rainy day until late afternoon. Really enjoyed bein’ inside and dry. I read, day drank, napped and watched stuff. Sup got fixed and we et geezer sup at four p.m. OYKW did cleanup. We finished watchin’ Bridgerton and now need to find sump’n else to watch together. Both of us have things we watch on our own, but like to have at least one thing to watch together.

MOOOOOOM I go right to the geezer frames. I want black grumpy old man frames. Everything else looks stoopid.

Taters huzzah for the retirement pay finally kickin’ in!

Nuts glad you’re on the mend.

Maybe if they were covered in rubber cement they would

Makes sense.

I wouldn’t doubt it, but rest assured that as I learn, you guys will!

I’m just in the habit of using my keys last. Some habits won’t go away, I’m glad that one is a good habit.

We had some excitement this evening. A deer jumped our back fence which got the fuzzbutts all excited, but then it came to the window and bumped it with its snout. Pandemonium ensued! I saw it nibble some grass and nose around at the garlic before hopping back over the fence and going off to check out Harry’s yard.

Mutual grooming is happening now, they got all fluffed and messy during the deer incident and have to keep up their standards.

I think I mentioned us hanging sound proof drapes in the door opening to the laundry nook. I’m really happy we did that, it has quieted things down and helped to even out the temp in the dining room. (The laundry nook has two leaky exterior doors that will be replaced this summer.)

The best part though is that George doesn’t grok drapes or curtains. It’s kinda understandable, it took him years to stop getting stuck between the door and the wall.

Jolene does understand that cats can push under drapes or go through the sides. She loves getting on the other side of the drapes and luring George close and then jumping out at him. He really is surprised every time because apparently going past the drapes is magic that no kittahs have ever done before.

The escargots turned out well. I do make good escargots, thought not just butter-and-garlic. I almost used salted butter, but I didn’t. I almost added a pinch of kosher salt, but I didn’t. Turned out perfect. I love it when I get to use freshly-grated parmigiano reggiano.

Part of it may be due to imbibing in carbonated beverages. Another part may be that you are sweating it out, either reffing / coaching soccer or working out.
