The flights and accommodations have not been nailed down 100%, but I do know that I’ll be in NYC on the evening of Tuesday, May 20th and that I’m staying at the Doubletree on Times Square.
Anyone wanna meet me for dinner and drinks?
::so excited::

Everything is nailed down now. Flying in on May 20th around noon, flying out on May 21st around 7:00 PM.
Doubletree on Times Square.
I can’t wait to:
If no one is available to meet for dinner or drinks, can you help me out with some other quintessential New York experiences I could have in my limited time?
Jokes about cabs, hookers and porn stores are expected and will be received with smirks.
“I remember this one time when I was a hooker and I took a cab to the porn store…”
I’d love to have dinner with you! But I’m a follower, not a planner. If you tell me where you’re having dinner, I will just show up all loud and stuff and embarrass the living shit outta ya. So make sure it’s one of those ritzy-titzy type places so my loud obnoxiousness isn’t wasted.
Dammit, I’m going to be out of town!
Why do I always miss the good stuff? Eve’s cemetary tour, Manny’s Birthday, Canthearya’s visit. I suck.
OK, I guess that I’m the planner type around here. Tuesday, May 20 seems like as good a time as any for dinner and drinks.
Options include the Times Square area (John’s Pizza is a favorite TS gathering place), or not the Times Square area (leaving it rather wide open).
Is there type of NY cuisine or restaurant or bar you’re are interested in experiencing, Gazelle? (We NY Dopers love to take tourists to interesting places.)
I’m smirking, Vanilla Toast.
Hiya Biggirl; cantwaittameetcha!
Sue! Here’s hoping your plans change. ::hopinghopinghoping::
Billdo, baby! You’re so sweet to orga-muh-nize this. I am easy to please; I love all food and alcohol. You’re free to choose any interesting place. Looking forward to meeting you, Marital Aid William (El Hubbo pointed out that my other nickname for you – Pleasurably Vibrating William --would actually be ViBillrator).
I’m off work Wednesdays. You want to meet at Times Square and trot down to the Strand Bookstore at 12th?
Hey Annie! That would be fun… I think I’ll run as soon as I check in; after a shower I’ll be down for a bookstore run. I love to browse.
Hope this isn’t a dumb question, but what’s the deal with the Strand? I mean, why is that a quintessential NY experience?
Cause it’s a HUGE place with new books at half off and very cheap used books. Cause they have books you cannot find anywhere else. Cause it’s good for people watching. Cause it’s a slice of NYC.
Sweet! Sounds fun Annie and El Hubbo will be glad to sanction monetary expenditures for books.
Do it in that order. Trust me.
I’ll chime in here real quick, and hope that Gazelle won’t be upset if I ask for more tips on must see things in NYC. I’ll be there for 2 or 3 days in July (looking to arrive the 4th actually). Wife wants to stay at the Plaza, but since this is supposed to be our less expensive vacation, I don’t know about that. Hope you don’t mind a minor type hijack Gazelle. It’s kinda in line with what you’re doing…
Oh man I’m so pissed off.
Hijacking welcome, Atrael.
Thanks…and be sure to let me know what running routes you find. I’m going to have a heck of a time running while we’re on vacation as it is, knowing ahead of time someplace to run would be one less thing to worry about. Have a great trip, and you know we’re all going to want details.
I could hang out for dinner & drinks, as my finals are done on May 16th… I’ll keep checking the thread.
Dinner and drinks, yeah.
Eerie Cemetery tours, no thanks.
My New York tip would be to check out the live music at the Livingroom. No admission charge and no cover, artists get an hour and if you like them you can throw money in the bucket when they pass it. Norah Jones played here regularly during the year before her album came out. There are two great Thai restaurants nearby on the opposite side of Houston Street. Also Katz’s Deli is close by on Houston which is where the famous restaurant scene was filmed for When Harry Met Sally. Other music venues in the area that often have interesting bookings are Joe’s Pub, the Fez, and if your tastes are a little more extreme, the Mercury Lounge. More music venues to check out would include Irving Plaza, the Bottom Line, B.B. King’s Blues Club, and for comedy Caroline’s.
Wasn’t it you, BG, who coordinated that Hoosier’s coming to the Apple, great excuse to get drunk thang in Brooklyn about this time last year? I just always assumed it was you. Perhaps it was your other half’s doing. In either case it was both memorable & fun.
That’s Brooklyn. No one ever wants to go to Brooklyn.
