One sentence summaries that miss the point -- The Game

Although I didn’t contribute to the zombie portion of One sentence summaries that miss the point which was started 03-16-2003, 03:15 AM by 3trew and which has run for 5 pages up through 03-14-2009 02:48 PM (by The Tofu Kitty) with 236 Replies and 8,092 Views, nor to the “revival” which began with this post with approval in this post, I do see some potential for a flip-flop sort of game.

Simple rules:

  1. Either rip off one of the entries from that thread or, better still, create one of your own, with the one-sentence summary as your guideline, and post it as a “clue” to a movie that has a decent chance of having been seen by at least a dozen Dopers.

  2. To respond to a clue, quote the clue, guess that movie, and, if you want to, post a new summary of your own.

  3. When somebody guesses your movie, quote their guess and say Yea or Nay as to the correctness of the guess.

  4. Lather, rinse, repeat.

A starter (deliberately weak):

Movie #1: Enough crooks to form a football team decide to have some extra fun in Vegas

Thanks for linking to that thread; there’s some pretty funny stuff in there.

#1 - Ocean’s Eleven

clue #2 - Some pesky aliens keep redecorating the place.

Your #1 guess is correct. You’re welcome for the link; it is a fun thread. I’m trying to isolate your #2. Not Ghostbusters, is it?

Nope.

Need more info!

For now I’ll guess Independence Day

#3 Southern lady and chaffeur discuss race relations.
#4 Young couple decides to relieve rich couple of a spare child.
#5 Kooky taxidermist in drag surprises motel guest.

Movie #2, clue #1 - Some pesky aliens keep redecorating the place.

Movie #2, clue #2: A man tries to take a trip to the beach, but keeps getting lost.

I hope this means Planet of the Apes.

Wrong again, Zeldar.

Dark City.

Driving Miss Daisy, Raising Arizona, and Psycho.

Couple more, to keep the game going:

#7 An interest in scale models leads to an unusual encounter on top of a mesa.
#8 Story time with grandpa.

Correct on all three of mine.

#6 Miller’s Crossing?
#7 Close Encounters of the Third Kind?
#8 That Al Pacino movie with some number of bits in the title?

Ding ding ding! We have a weiner!

#9 Disgruntled transportation worker shaves his head and attends a political rally
#10 Slovenly private eye takes a strange case and visits Louisiana
#11 A young man has a transformative experience involving a common pest

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island!

Oh, and #9 Taxi Driver and #11 The Fly

Taxi Driver and The Fly are right. I can’t dispute the #10 answer, but it’s not the one I had in mind. So half credit?

I’ll take it.

#13 Man with unfortunate haircut likes games of chance.

No Country for Old Men. Also The Dark Knight.

This could be The Deer Hunter!

Simulpost! All could be wrong!

Zeldar got my first two, and Justin my third.
