"One small step for man..." 35 years ago today

I was reminded this morning that today is the 35th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon, and Neil Armstrong first setting foot on it.

It never ceases to amaze me what all the people who have worked toward the goal of reaching beyond Earth were able to accomplish, and I admire the courage of those who have been willing to risk their lives to make those first moves out into the wider universe. I wish we had a clearer vision for continuing on that path.

Ad astra.

That’s for sure - it’s pretty sad that for 31 of those past 35 years we’ve been stuck here. I’m glad that the current Administration is taking some steps to get us back there, but I have my doubts that it will become much of anything.

Today is my brother Tom’s birthday!

Happy Birthday Tom!
I remember the moon land though I wasn’t even 5 yet. We had just arrived in OKC from Manilla. (Dad was in the AF) and in the temporary housing we watched the first moon walk.

I remember walking in kind of a skipping/hopping fashion to imitate the guys on the moon.

What do you think the first man on Mars will say?

I always imagined the first man to get out of the spacecraft, take a step, and say “two smalls steps for two men, two giant leaps for mankind”
