It’s The Onion. They’ve done worse. They’ll do it again.
I thought the article was funny, and I’m Jewish. I agree with friedo… love the word “hebe”.
Edit: Really, is it any worse than “12-Year-Old Bully Not So Tough After Being Molested”?

You know, I hadn’t noticed that. I have a feeling their legal department had something to do with that.
I refuse to be offended by trivialities. By all means, go further, Onion.
IMO not too much, since the point is that it’s a racist slur.
We used to have a smiley that could be brought to bear on this…
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
It’s obvious (to me at least) that The Onion isn’t really racist and the article is a satirical joke. Then it cannot be offensive to me.
I didn’t even find it offensive when they called the little girl a cunt on Twitter. Obviously, many disagreed with me on that one.
In England we call waitresses Hebes.
I thought it was funny. It’s nothing compared to this one:
Fair point, on topic, funny and obviously not racist.
Only the Jewish ones?
What a weird non sequitur.
In fact Heeb magazine still exists. I was going to say that word also has a history as a non-slur, but I was thinking of Yid.
Well, he did say his friend had issues.
As to the OP: I find it hard to believe that anyone would find “redskin” acceptable but “hebe” or “kike” unacceptable, whether in an Onion article or anywhere else…but I guess some people forget that Native Americans/Indians actually exist. Like, today.
[Brian Cohen]: I’m not a Roman mum, I’m a kike, a yid, a heebie, a hook-nose, I’m kosher mum, I’m a Red Sea pedestrian, and proud of it![/Brian Cohen]
“Hebrew” makes me think of an Israeli beer.
He’Brew. The Chosen Beer. http://www.shmaltzbrewing.com/HEBREW/
I’ve had it, but I don’t remember if I liked it or not.
A hebe’s a plant isn’t it? I’m pretty sure my mum grows them…
Ignorance fought.
Actually, I’ve tried many of Shmaltz Brewing’s offerings and many are fantastic.
I’m not Jewish, but I think they went too far. It’s not the fault of other Jewish people that this guy is a jerk, so I think the history behind the racial slurs used trumps the humor of the piece.
