Online Comics thread

:smack:

I can’t believe I forgot about Narbonic! But I can rectify that somewhat by bringing up Shaenon Garrity’s new strip, Skin Horse.

And, what the hell, another Garrity short: Edward Gorey’s The Trouble with Tribbles.

BAH! everything I read on a daily basis has been mentioned.

But follow the link Miller posted for Skin Horse. The last time I mentioned Narbonic Miller posted a link, and Skin Horse is very very good. I particularly am liking the operatic silverfish.

Check it out.

I feature a different webcomic every Tuesday here. My personal favorites are:

Subnormality

PS 238

Irregular Webcomic

Garfield minus Garfield

The Order of the Stick

Two out of my three favorites are either ending or have disappeared. A Doemain of Our Own, being the former, still has its entire run online.

About a month ago, Andy Weir stated that he was going to wrap up the finale storyline (which had been abandoned when he decided that he was more interested in Cheshire Crossing).

huh, I follow my comics religiously, but I’m suprised a few haven’t been mentioned:
So here’s my list (with links to those not mentioned yet):

Bob and George (A Sprite Comic based on the Megaman series)- it’s run its course, but now the author is simply redoing them w/ additionally commentary. Starts out simple, and gets Ridiculously complex.

Bunny ! - Cute single panel cartoon of a Bunny.

Count Your Sheep Another “Cute” comic, this one about a little girl and her imaginary friend a Sheep named Sheep. Very cute, and well done. It reminds me of a newspaper comic strip.

College Roomates from Hell This one updates kinda sporadically and it’s sorta odd. Similar to how sluggy first started out, and has lots of storylines, but it’s been getting lost as of late. But still, the older stuff wasn’t too bad.

You’ll Have That -This is another “cute” strip. It’s the most like a Newspaper comic strip that I read. Story follows the author in his daily life being married and is grounded in reality pretty much.

Socks and Barney GREAT Political Comic Strip about Socks the Cat and Barney the Dog (Clinton and Bush’s family pets), the Author is a democrat and the strip leans HEAVILY that way, however, it started as the election began, and now currently the author is VERY Pro-Obama and anti-Hilary. Just a warning for those who might not like that sort of thing. But it has great fun lampooning the election process.

Real Life Comics Surprised this one wasn’t mentioned yet. It’s a M-F strip following the (nerdy) Author and his friends, but actually is quite well done. Much more recommended than the “You’ll have that” as this is a bit more fantasy based at times.

Misfile - A Manga Style comic that’s less comedy and more storyline driven, but it’s QUITE good (About a boy turned into a Girl by an angel and the exploits that follow). I recommend it for those who don’t mind the style.

DnDorks - yet another strip about Playing D&D but focuses on the Real world AND the characters they play in the game. It’s not bad, but updates sporadically now.

Whoops hit the Submit button. That’s half of what I read each day. :smack:
Here’s teh Rest (The Good stuff- that I tend to like more):

Least I could Do -By the author of the Looking for Group strips mentioned above. It’s got good humor, but its got a “mean” protagonist. If you don’t like a snarky womanizing asshole as your main character, then you might not like this comic as much, however, the strip over time has given him GREAT Depth, and so you can watch him evolve over time along with the art.

Diesel sweeties -already mentioned above.
Evil Inc -Funny comic that lampoons Comic book Heroes and Villains. Updates daily, and it’s quite good (something for the Other non-D&D nerds out there  )
Cyanide and Happiness A VERY Crude and just out there strip. If you like Perry Bible Fellowship, but want something a little less intellectual and more cruder- this is the strip for you!

Dominic Deegan -My fav. Fantasy Comic strip, it updates almost daily, and it’s quite good especially reading through the archives. EXCELLENT story lines, and very good humor too. I love it.

PvPOnline- Everyone should know this- recently celebrated it’s 10th year online
Sinfest- mentioned above, another GREAT strip
Sluggy freelance - the archetype of complex story lines.
Questionable Content- What Can I say? I’m hooked.
Those are the strips that I check EVERY day usually to see if they’ve updated, I have a whole 'nother list for MWF comics, but I think these above should have something for everyone out there- no matter where your sensibilities lie.

Oh, and I must recommend one more for a GREAT GREAT Storyline [Think Sluggy Epic] (but one that actually fully finishes and its quite satisfying):
Roomies/ It’s Walky! By David Willis He still does some weekly strips and another web comic that’s WAY more interested in his hobbies (the Toy collecting business), but this strip was just a GREAT full storyline to read if you’re sick from work for a month or two, just go through the whole storyline and enjoy!

Sam & Fuzzy: I’m always shocked when I’m the first one to mention this in these threads; it really deserves more attention. It’s another one of those comics that started out as a gag a day but quickly developed an overall arc. However, the jokes are still there, and they’re still funny. If you don’t mind digging through the archives for a bit, check it out.

I check this ridiculously often for updates.

I actually made a comic strip and sent it to him and he wrote me back:

Ok, who knows what he really thought of it, but I’m taking it as a compliment until I heard otherwise :D.

Let’s see here. looks through webcomic bookmark folder

Sluggy - check!
Bob and George - check!
Questionable Content - check!
Real Life - check!
Ctrl-Alt-Delete - check!
XKCD - check!
Least I Could Do - check!
Bunny - check!
PVP - no mention yet! woo!
VG Cats - check!
Cyanide and Happiness - check!
Darths and Droids - check!
Sinfest - check!

So I highly recommend all those, as those are the ones I read on a regular basis. And since PVP’s the only one that hasn’t been mentioned yet, I’ll include a link to it. It’s basically a strip about a magazine that reviews video games. There’s not too much video game related humor anymore, it’s more centered towards general geek humor and actual plots/storylines. Good stuff, although it’s been going on for a while.

I’ll also second It’s Walky, because it has an amazing storyline from start to finish. I think it’s one of the few webcomics (well, really anything in any medium for that matter) that made me tear up at its conclusion.

Pawn: Warning NSFW: nudity, lesbians.

A few more that I don’t think have been mentioned:

Minus: a girl with an active imagination

PartiallyClips: By the co-creator of Erfworld.

The Non-Adventures of Wonderella: a superhero parody

Oh yeah - I’ve been reading Minus for quite a while now. It’s brilliant! Except I think she’s actually supposed to have nearly unlimited magical powers (seeing as how the things she does continue to affect other people even when she’s not around).

Girl Genius–possibly the best reason to own a computer, after pron.

Evil Inc–about Superheroes, Supervillains, corporate America, workin’ for a livin’, having a relationship, & raising a kid.

Another vote for Girl Genius. Not enough good can be said of it.

Other comics I read that haven’t been mentioned:
Zebra Girl - The art and storytelling are simply beautiful. It starts off rather quirky and jokey, but when the first major story arc hits, it hits hard. Well worth the time it takes to get through the archives. The downside: it’s updating roughly once a month right now. But it’s still worth it.

Dresden Codak - If you like xkcd, you’ll probably like this. It’s currently going through a fascinating storyline. Lots of fun things in the sketch blog and such too.

Daily Dinosaur Comics - Did I miss it, or has no one mentioned this yet? Every comic is the same six panels, with different dialogue. It updates every weekday, and has been around for 5 years now. And it still hasn’t lost its touch or run out of material.

The Wotch - A highschool girl learns she’s the next in a line of powerful spellcasters. Hijinx and adventure ensue.

Zap! - Another example of “starts off as humor, develops a dramatic and gripping plot.” It is very very good. Space adventures with a dopey and unwilling captain.

Angels 2200 - In a post-apocalyptic setting, a plague has wiped out all men (don’t ask). The story follows a group of newly recruited space fighter pilots in the outer reaches of space.

Infinity on 30 Credits a Day - A project headed by the author of Irregular Webcomic. A collaborative process that involves multiple authors, artists, etc., and the readers vote on the direction of the plot and character designs and everything else. I admit I haven’t checked in in a long while, but it’s pretty interesting.
I think that’s enough for now.

Welp, time for me to jump in with a few.

Malfunction Junction - A journal comic of a sarcastic and hilarious gas station attendant. Unfortunately seems to be
ended

Basic Instructions Basic instructions for life, as demonstrated (or not) by a long suffering cast of characters.

Octopus Pie A grumpy square becomes roommates with a carefree stoner. Despite that description, the humor is mostly pretty subtle. Beautifully drawn. One of my favorites

Pictures for Sad Children A very melancholy tale of Paul the ghost, and Gary, Paul’s intern. Really hard to describe.

Cyanide and Happiness - Sick humor, I love it.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Goats . I also read many of the ones already mentioned, plus Overcompensating , Achewood , Megtokyo and AppleGeeks . A couple of others that update less often but have excellent artwork are No Need For Bushido and Alpha Shade .

Webcomics are my breakfast reading.

Recently, Achewood.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal It’s a single panel strip, crude art and crude humor.
