Online dating: It's complicated

Dopers who’ve done the online dating thing:

Have you used the “It’s complicated” setting for your relationship status? What was so complicated?

For those who have not used it, what do you assume is the complication when you see “It’s complicated”?

I have dated online quite a bit, not so much now though as I’m enjoying being single. I’ve never used ‘It’s complicated’ in a profile, and would never contact someone who did. To me it implies they’re with someone, maybe just in an on/off or casual type of way, but there’s still someone or something there. A dating profile is where you try and put across the best of yourself - ‘it’s complicated’, along with ‘no bunny boilers/head wreckers’ and comments about an ex, are the profiles I click ‘next’ on.

“It’s complicated” means that, legally or emotionally, the person in question isn’t completely available. As mudkicker says – click “next.”
