Ontario Dopers and anyone else who cares the Oct 2 election

Who the hell should be the next Premiere? For the first time ever I have no idea who to vote for. All three are unimpressive and the issues this time around are even thornier.

Who should stewart the province for the next 4 to five years?

Well, I can’t vote for the Ernie Eves and the PCs due to their stance on gay marriage, teacher strikes, and giving away free money to people just because they’re old.

I won’t vote for the Liberals because Dalton McGuinty is a lying weasel who will do everything the PCs say they’ll do even though he says he won’t.

Howard Hampton and the NDP, as near as I can tell, are as clueless as clueless can be.

Things do not look good.

I have to agree with you guys. Not a nice selection is it? I’m tempted to vote NDP just to not vote PC and avoid giving the vote to the Liberals.

RickJay, in Northern Piper’s thread this gay marriage comment came up too. I looked and, aside from Eve’s personal view, I couldn’t find a cite for opposition to gay marriage in provincial actions or the PC party’s policy papers. Any links on this?

Have I mentioned the idea of a provincial/federal Liberal love in makes my skin crawl?

Hmmm…looks like everyone here has summed up my thoughts perfectly, so I really don’t need to add anything.

Hey, can we bring back the Rhino Party? Given the current choices, they’re as good an option as anything else.

“Vote Rhino…and vote often!”

Ontario native currently living in the United States checking in…if Eves gets elected I will be forced to conclude that Ontario has gone insane. Artificially capping the consumer price for electricity without capping the prices that producers charge? (screaming) How can that possibly work? How is that a sane solution anywhere outside of Bizzarro World? They’re just subsidising the taxpayer’s bills with the taxpayer’s own money and hoping the taxpayers don’t notice!

Sorry, got a little riled up there…

CRAP on a cracker no! That’s how Bob Rae won his term… As much as I liked him as a person, he royally screwed up the province.

Here are the Parties I’ve ruled out so far:
No Family Coalition because they’d change abortion laws, make gay marriage illegal, and probablly burn libraries and witches as they try to send us to teh middle ages.

No Green or Hippie parties: I love the environment but I hate dirty smelly Hippies!

No Marxist or Communist parties: I’m a survivor of the Cold war and was left a little scarred by it.

No Freedom Party: They are a bit too free for me. (I mean free private schools??? Who is going to pay those tuitions?)

No Libertarians: The front page has links to “witty” jokes. My guess is the entire thing is a joke too. Plus I still want my “free” healthcare.

So I’m stuck with the Big three… well ok the big two.

I know Let’s pledge to split the vote, create a minority government which means they’d have to really work together.

Welcome to Alberta… its been working for the Tories for over 35 years here…

An unhappy Alberta New Democrat left wondering why the citizenry keeps electing these silly Tories :frowning:

Yup, it’s some slim-pickins but I’m gonna do my part to get rid of Eves.

My sister reports that at a Garnet Rogers concert preceding a federal election, Garnet said “If God had meant for us to vote, he would have given us candidates.”

Dunno if the line originated with him, but it’s all too true. We’re due for an election here pretty soon as well, and ACK! I’m as prairie socialist as they come, but the NDP needs a good solid kick in the ass. But the alternative? The Saskatchewan Party. They should’ve called themselves the Alberta Party; it’d be more honest. Bunch of Klein wannabes.

On a positive note, this Sunday the SP candidate for my riding is having a rally-thing in the park next to my apt block, with free hot dogs and drinks. So I’m gonna go eat for free, guaranteeing that at least some of the funds raised by those idjits will go to waste.
