Ooooh! I Bet This'll Be a BIG Hit at Raves!

Eerie glowing clothes!

There’s a photo in the linked article of a (rather attractive) woman wearing a dress, demonstrating it. Outside of rave clothing, I can’t see much use for the stuff.

If they make socks with that, I’m in.

I’m confused. It says it’s a “new fabric that can emit its own light”, but later on it says it “combines technology and electronics with fabrics, using high efficient LEDs to spread light safely at very low voltages (3,6V).” So is it just LEDs embedded in the fabric, or what?

That is cool stuff. It would be damn cool to have a suit made out of it.

On the practical side you could put some of the stuff on certain peices of furniture to avoid tripping over them.

The way I read it (and I may be wrong) is that it’s a cloth with fiber optics (illuminated by LEDs) woven into it. These comments

Combined with this photo make me think they are aiming straight for the raver market.

Not the whole suit, just the pinstripes. It might be neat to have a tie that you really could read by.

I can see another use: safety vests

Safety vests are a good idea. Good for outside workers, people running/biking/walking at night (reflectors aren’t that great). Little kids playing at night, etc. But not good for hide n’ seek!

I’d like it if I were at a big party and my friend had on one of these shirts so I could find them easier. It sucks to lose a friend at a big party and just standing there by yourself hoping they’ll walk by so you can stop looking like a dork…

Those would make fun pajamas.

I like the chairs and umbrella and pillows

You have a friend who, by simple proximity, helps you not look like a dork at parties? I wish a had a friend like that.

I don’t think it would work if he was wearing luminescent gear, though.

More images here.

Wow. Boobs that are visible from low-flying aircraft. Can’t beat that.

Oh, man. Remember neon? I can see this becoming the next neon.

My as yet unborn (and unconceived!) children will be saying, “Oh man, you guys were so lame!” Or whatever the catchphrase for something lame will be in thirteen years or so.

Oh, and I just wanted to say, it’s all pretty damn cool. However, it’s usefulness just reminds me of the whole neon fad. It was just something cool and new and everyone had it.

And, sadly, I want some of this crap.

Pretty much any friend could help accomplish that goal, given that you don’t automatically look cool sitting all by yourself, sulking.

Gives new meaning to “Headlights”

(“Your headlights are on.” “Yes, I know.”)

Can I have a hat made out of this? I promise to treasure it forever…

Oh wow. One step closer to TRON-realisation. Sweet!

Yeah, but I don’t think it’ll help the problems with this guy’s costume.
