Opal, what the fuck is your problem?

I hereby propose “buckeyes” as a legitimate filler item for a list which would otherwise only have two things.

You say that the board is the compass of his world? Is that worse than you, who thinks you’re the moral compass of the boards?

Since when do people have to justify their pittings? Are you, Dropzone, the one who makes the decision of who can and can’t be pitted? Because it seems to me you’re doing what you always doing - acting out your knight-in-shining armor fantasies. “Oh, I’ll rush in and defend this poor little lamb.” Go fuck yourself, you self-righteous asshole.

You’re incapable of letting things NOT be about you. I’ve seen you butt into a million pit threads, telling people they should get along or making stupid self-deprecating jokes to draw attention to yourself.

And you have the BALLS to suggest Dio needs time away? Good God, man.

Oh, and go fuck yourself again for admitting you didn’t even read the whole thread and just jumped in to have your say.

Oh stop, buckeye isn’t remotely notable as a gross word for food.

Pea - as in “eat every bean and pea on your plate”
Avocado - you know avocados are called that because they look like testicles
Nuts - they don’t look as much like testicles, but they sound like testicles
Kidney beans - natch
Hot Dog - who wants to eat dogs?
Rump Roast - some rumps are nice, but I wouldn’t want to cut one up and eat it

The list goes on and on… and you pick on buckeye as being really gross?

Read between the lines, and it’s pretty clear Opal was so insecure about her feelings on vegetarianism, and identifying with the state of Ohio, that she couldn’t let that not destroy her thread about a peanut-butter chocolate dessert.

In what world does all that immediately follow the response given by devilsknew in post #2? Devilsknew was making a light-hearted connection between the fact she inquired about a dessert that the state she now resides in made famous. She had to make it clear that she was:

  1. A vegetarian
  2. From Arizona.
  3. Not intending to live in Ohio indefinitely.
  4. She’s easily grossed out by the name of a treenut.

Okay, so we can’t take this at face value, we need to put it in context; where does all that come from? It’s not really about her feeling squeamish about deer eyeballs or being ignorant about the name because she’s from AZ, it’s about her having to find ways to make sure people know where she stands on her pet issues. To force them in where they don’t belong. It’s twisted, and is very transparent as it says a lot about her character. It’s happened before, and I’m sure it’ll happen again. It’s just sad and irritating. It makes you wonder if she’s like this IRL.

That said, I thought devilsknew’s post #4 was perfect and not snarky at all, in that light. In fact, it was pretty damn funny.

Not to mention kumquat  and yogurt. Ewwww…

I second your proposal.

Very, very well said.

Maybe Hubbie #1 moved her to Ohio. Where she had a boring job with computers & was forced to cook pork chops.

Now she’s got an engagement ring! Hubbie #2 is a vegetarian & has encouraged her artistic talent.

So she’s leaving all things Ohioan* behind! I wish her well but will refrain from offering any advice. Even if she asks.

** Is that a word? *

Almost 100% agreement with cmyk, except to say that post 4 was snarky, but it was pretty mild and totally appropriate in my opinion. There were several places where Opal could have been less of a bitch.

For example, in post 3, she could have said, “Thanks, that’s the one (or not the one). That name’s always grossed me out, though, so I’m going to continue calling them peanut butter balls.” Everyone would have internally said, “huh? how is ‘buckeyes’ gross?” and ignored the whole thing.

Or she could have left her rude response in post 3, and then in post 5 said, “sorry, I know it’s not exactly rational of me, but I’ve got a thing and I just don’t want to call it that; let’s just drop it.”

Or at any point in the rest of the thread, she could have acknowledged that maybe to most people in the world, the word “buckeyes” is not equivalent to “goat spleen” in grossness. Part of the problem is that she continued to act like using the term “buckeyes” was n-a-s-t-y nasty, which is sort of offensive to people who think it’s perfectly fine. Are you calling me nasty if I say it? WTF? When you’re that far outside the norm, your squickiness with the name is your problem, not mine.

I agree with Freudian Slit, actually. Were I Opal, I wouldn’t respond to this thread, either, and though I feel this pitting is justified to some extent (I’ve gotten a warning in the past for calling her out on her shit in a non-Pit thread), it also smacks of mock outrage – **Diogenes **is being as huge a dick in this thread as **Opal **was in the original – and I get the sense that many are lining up just to take a swipe because they know she, like Guin, is a safe target and one of the SDMB punching bags.

Also, add me to the long list of people that are totally squicked out by tight groupings of circles. I once made myself sick by staring at dozens of straws from the top down, and am also greatly disturbed by any sort of skin lesion that manifests itself as an extensive rash. Mumps, measles, chicken pox, gooseflesh, or even really severe acne churn my stomach.

I’d like to change my mind and agree with this. It was snarky, but totally deserved.

That had better be a food item, and not a sex act gone horribly wrong. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d like to update my percentage of agreement with cmyk to 100%.

I need minions. How do I go about acquiring some? Is there a Minion’s Union Hall where they all hang around looking for work or something like that?

She didn’t say anything about what anyone else should call them. Rather, after being told she should call them “buckeyes,” she explained that she won’t be calling them that, and why.

-FrL-

Sorry to bump this with a hijack, but it sounds like a bout of trypophobia.

And no, you’re not alone.

I didn’t say a thing about her responding to it. Merely reading it. Moreover, she never responds to any criticism of her. Diva.

And she is one of the SDMB punching bags? She’s always been a real heroine around here. I thought people loved her.

Woah. Now that is something I’ve not heard of before. Very interesting.

I’ve never been pitted, but I suppose I’d read a little, but five pages of this? At this point, it’s not even about her anymore.

I don’t know, this seems like it’s about more than just this thread, but more of a pattern of how she responds. Which I’ll accept–I haven’t really paid much attention to her in that regard. If she does have a pattern of it, I guess I could see how maybe this was the last straw, but I hadn’t noticed it myself. I’m just bemused that a thread on buckeyes became so much more.
