Open letter to my Mom's church [mild]

When I visit my mom on the weekends once in awhile, I usually go to Mass with her on Sunday. I’m agnostic, but the ceremony is relaxing, sometimes inspirational, and gives me a time to meditate with others.

I usually keep silent when asked to pray for the curtailment of abortion, even though it is worded in the context of causing the choice of life rather than legal sanctions, simply because it is always intermingled with a prayer for general world health and peace. While I’m on the fence on abortion, I find the forced co-mingling unnecessary.

But I fear that I will also be asked to pray for the “Sanctity of Marraige” or somesuch. I will never be able to do that when I would know exactly what they mean by buzzwords of that sort. Perhaps when the Church is liberalized or when this has blown over so that I will no longer be asked to pray for it. And yes, despite the fact that God is not provable nor disprovable, I to pray for things at Church, since I have found that usually, when I pray for something personal that is possible, it happens. So a request for a prayer is not a hollow thing for me.

But I’m afraid I will have to cease visiting your establishment until that time. And the 5-20 bucks I throw in each time won’t be going in either.

Okay…

Thanks for sharing.

I’ll be sure to pass this on to the Pastor. (assuming it’s a Catholic church?)

Good for you.
