Opinions on Acer laptops? Need answer fast!

Bought an Acer back at Christmas 2007. Would still be ticking now if I hadn’t dropped it and messed up the screen*. Speakers were lame, but a pair of cheap clip-on ones from Radio Shack fixed that.

*At first, there appeared to be no damage. Then after a month the casing started to detach. Dad rigged up a way for the casing to stay together, screen survived for 2.5 months after that.

My Aspire 5000 got me through grad school and lot’s o number crunching, the little workhorse.

I just got the Gemstone Blue (7000-series something or other) and my only complaint is the hypersensitive touchpad. Also the volume suddenly rises for no reason at all, the icon appears on the screen even if I don’t have my hands on the laptop at all. it is beginning to bother me.
