opinions on headshots

Hoping to get opinions that are not biased with fore-knowledge of the in real life answers.

So, for those who wish to participate:

Below are links to two photos. For each:

–describe her personality, however it comes across to you. A list of adjectives, or make up a story/scenario about her, either is fine.

–how old is she? Yes, you can have a different answer for each.

–what is she thinking? what’s going on behind her eyes?

Photo 1

Photo 2

Thanks!

Photo 1:

She’s laid back, but with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Sexy, but in a subtle way.

I’d say early thirties.

She’s thinking “Hey. How’s it going? Like my red highlights?”

Photo 2:

There’s a little less mischief in this photo. More sincerity.

She’s thinking “I’m having my picture taken while standing in front of a brick wall.”

No one else has an opinion?

This may be a first at the SDMB…

I’ll give it a go.

Photo 1, she’s about to tell you something that is going to crack your mind wide open. She has a camera ready to take a shot of your face when she drops it on you. (I don’t know what it is, but I think it’s fun and a little bit naughty)

Age? Early 30s.

Photo 2, this is afterwards. Bomb dropped, your reaction was everything she’d hoped it would be. She’s kinda pleased with herself.

Same age to me.

Opinions on headshots?

Boom, I say.

#1 is cuter but I don’t do well reading beyond the surface.

Headshots are a follow-up. Two rounds into the center of mass, then the head shot in case they’re wearing body armor. Your basic Mozambique Drill.

Since I don’t know this woman at all, my first reaction from those photos is:

a) she could stand eating a burrito or two to fill out her body;

b) her hairstyle isn’t flattering for her face/body structure. I’d recommend a bob/flip style to soften the bony facial features and draw attention away from her neck (not wearing a shirt cut like that would also help);

c) I’d say the eyes and smile imply intelligent mischievousness, but unfortunately, that smile when combined with her facial features makes me think of “laughing skeleton” first and foremost.

(Now, this is where the OP tells me they’re photos of their best friend-- or worse, HER photos :).

How old? I’d guess early thirties, but she has the kind of face where she could actually be a lot older or younger. She looks younger in the first one.

What is she thinking? In the first one: “Oh shit, when is this going to be over with?” In the second one: “I’m going to bite you!”

She looks uncomfortable, awkward, and unnatural in both. The smile looks forced and the way she is holding her head suggests that she thinks that’s a “good angle” for her. There’s no reason to think that she’s as high-strung as she looks in real life, but if I were making hiring decisions or something, I’d probably pass over her for someone who looks more comfortable in her own skin.
I’m guessing they’re of you, so I’m sorry to have had to say something negative, but I assume you wanted all opinions, even the negative ones. Overall, the first one is a lot better.

I like the shirt though.

Straight off I’ll say I don’t think either photo is flattering.

Photo 1 is creepy, the woman has “crazy eyes.” The enthusiasm looks forced, like someone is holding her at gunpoint but you can’t see it.

Photo 2 has more sincere emotion/friendliness. However there’s way too much “body” for a “headshot.” basically what I’m trying to say is the focus is not on the face. I’m not a fan of the tilted camera either.

This woman looks older than me & my friends; I’m 34. I’d guess low 40s agewise.

I’m going to disagree with davekhps on the matter of drawing attention away from the neck. I think the neck/decolletage area is a good feature. But upon further viewing of that area, I would definitely say that she needs a much better bra. The bra she has is probably fine in real life, but for a headshot, she could use a little more lift and shaping. Adding a little more oomph to the bust would also emphasize her nice slim waist and balance her hips.

I also realized that a lot of the awkwardness that I perceived comes from the way the shoulders are being held. They’re rolled forward. If the shoulders were held back, she’d look a hell of a lot more confident.

I agree about the hair, though. It needs a cut and a softer style/color. She has FANTASTIC bones and a different hairdo could really set them off.

A Marine sniper would laugh at your waste of ammo.

Is it just me, or are those two photos of the same person?

I was hoping for a discussion of ethical hunting.

The way she’s holding her head in both shots looks very unnatural and uncomfortable to me. Neither smile looks natural (though the second one is slightly better). Don’t care for the blouse, which looks cheap (“inexpensive,” not “suitable for a floozie”) to me. Age on both: late 30s, but I’ll admit I’m not great at telling people’s ages.

Looks to me like two pictures of a female vampire. A hungry female vampire. I find this somewhat confusing, since vampires normally don’t show up in photographs. Unfortunately, atheists have limited non-lethal means of defense against vampires. Maybe invite her out for a stake and garlic potatoes, and see how she reacts…

Okies…

No 1. You have caught her a little off guard, she didn’t really want the picture taken, her hair is a little lifeless and lank, she has thrown it back over her shoulder to keep it off shot. Her shoulders are slightly rounded, she doesn’t have a sexy dynamic with the photographer, (maybe a friend or same sex colleague?) She was doing something else and was pressured into the shoot. The smile is a pose and a little forced. She is trying hard to be nice but her heart isn’t in it.

No2. Okay she looks a little friendlier, maybe had a glass of wine? (eyes look a little red) yes definitely friendlier but still no vibrant sexy relationship with the photographer. She is getting her photo taken and not really giving much to the process. ( still slightly self conscious, round shouldered body language) I would have said late 30s early 40s but caught a glimpse of plaid in the second photo so her age may be lower than the Miss Jean Brody grey anonymous top suggests. The tilted head in both shots doesn’t project a lot of confidence. Whether thats because of selfconsciousness regarding her hair or general demeanour I can’t say.

However in case she is related I will say it is obvious that she is a deep warm kind compassionate human being but just not too photogenic. Hola!

She looks crazy.

I have seen quite a few headshots and I don’t think these are very good. They have an odd angle to them and she doesn’t look very natural.

Headshots are supposed to say “this is how I look, normally, at my best” and these photos don’t do that. They look forced.

ETA - if I had to choose one over the other, I would go with #1. She looks older in #2.

Are we doing somebody’s psych homework?
