So, the other day I spoke to someone I know who knows an awful lot about eyes and proposed that they find me an opioid antagonist that was either topical or didn’t cross the blood brain barier, with the aim of curing my dry eyes (which are caused by opioids). This was just a theory of mine at the time which I came up with on the spot.
Since then a bit of research has shown that in fact this wasn’t a unique idea of mine (damn! no free money!) and has been used on opioid naive patients, e.g. naltrexone eye drops seem (according to dryeyeforum) to have been prescribed by some dude called “Dr. Rosenthal” - but of course that’s in America and not that much use to me here.
Can anyone think of a good opioid antagonist that I can ask a normal doctor to prescribe me that will not cross the blood brain barrier and will have no other effects? Especially - is there any opioid antagonist that is in eye drop format? I am particularly thinking about the gut, if you get my meaning. If not, how does one go about getting specalist drugs made up for yourself? They won’t be controlled drugs and will have no illicit potential so should be fairly easy you’d hope?
Finally any possibility of talking someone or other into making a clinical trial out of this? That seems the best way of getting what I’m after. How do you find a willing doctor who wants to experiment with things (I’m basically asking for a forum recommendation there - I would like to take this to appropriate medical forums for their feedback)?
Ironically my dry eyes are really mild and the only time I notice is them is if I’m driving at night where I have to take artifical tears, but thats’ not the point.
