I know it says “featuring Snoop”, but he clearly is the lead performer for the middle section and Psy barely does anything.
I … didn’t care for it. The “message” of the song cracked me up, being a drunk myself, but the song itself didn’t do anything for me. I liked “Gentleman” much better.
I much preferred Snoop’s turn as Moses in Epic Rap Battles of History:
This is actually far from certain, as Google does not publish what a view actually is. Likely, you are correct, but simply viewing the same video multiple times in a row would not count. There would have to be some period of time between views.
Also, I don’t really like the new song. That repetition at the beginning almost made me turn the video off. And it never seems to have any catchy parts.
My understanding is that it counts you as a new view once a new day rolls over.
I thought it was hysterical; I counted 35 references that young (and older) Koreans will ‘get’ - I’m sure there are many more. It’s another reflection on Korean attitudes and behaviour, but addresses the volatile and thoroughly / completely accepting and rewarded attitude to alcohol that is respected and encouraged in Korean society. To me Psy is CK Lewis, offering a sharp but humorous take on the ills that a community knows full well but cannot vocalise without being the subject of ridicule or dismissal. The scenes with people fighting in the streets after drinking most of the night, crashing cars because of being hungover, waking up still drunk and being unable to perform at work, are all situations Koreans are aware happen because they do. The country produces a great deal but there are still underlying problems, in the cities and out in the countryside, which are holding it back from being a top economy. Then again, having the best economy and a good life are not always congruent. I think Korea has found a happy medium - a highly developed and educated country, but still willing to have fun and live a little close to the edge.
‘Gangnam Style’ breaks YouTube.
Converting a single int from 32 bits to 64 bits is essentially free. Converting the database field that stores the view counts for every single video on YouTube is a very expensive operation.
This is, without a doubt, my longest thread ever!
Actually Bill Cosby’s up to 484 posts now!
Oh, dear! I hadn’t caught that. Thank you.
What I don’t understand is why they were using a signed int for page counts. If they had used an unsigned int, 32 bits would have sufficed up to 4,294,967,295 views…I mean, it’s not as if they’re ever going to have a video with a negative number of views…
Maybe they took your advice; it’s now at 2,154,480,678 views, which is over the supposed 2,147,483,647 maximum.
From what I gathered from another discussion, somewhere else: It appears (based on job postings) that some of YouTube is written in Java, which doesn’t have unsigned ints. Also, the DB software may possibly not support them either.
(Aren’t we done with this yet?)
(NO.)
Currently, “Gangnam Style” is above 2.5 billion views.
I found a youtube video the other day that had 14 views. I think my record is 7.
