Options for hosting a simple photo gallery

Hi everyone.

I’m embarking on a photo project; I’m aiming to take fifty-two photos of a local country park in fifty-two weeks. The plan is to document the life of this place, mixing landscape, people photography and close-in shots of the tiny details that we all miss when we’re walking about. The idea is to select one image from each trip to be that week’s photo, building up to fifty-two images over the course of a year.

I want to collect these images and host them somewhere, maybe (but not definitely) with a dedicated domain name. I have dabbled with HTML and PHP, and I could probably lash something up from scratch, but this project is already going to take up a lot of my free time. That being the case, I’d rather use a “ready rolled” solution.

Accounts that I have at the moment which I may be able to use:
[ul]
[li]Facebook. I think I could set up a FB page with the url Facebook, as a “child” of my personal account. [/li][li]Google Photos. I have a Google Photos account, and I could easily set up a “collection” and make it public - but I’m not sure if I can map a domain name to it. [/li][li]Wordpress (hosted). I have no experience of Wordpress, but some googling suggests that it is pretty straightforward to set up, and would suit the blog-like nature of the project. Custom domain-name option is pricey, but I could live with my-project.wordpress.com[/li][li]500px. I have a personal account there, but it’s not as widely known as the other sites, and I’m not sure if you can “section off” a folder for a project like this. [/li][/ul]

I’m not on Flickr - I guess that may be another option?

All opinions and ideas welcome.

I’ve use Wordpress for a travelogue site, and some of the themes are very photo-gallery oriented.
It’s pretty easy to use once you play with it.

Zenfolio works - are you willing to pay?

Thanks, I’ll have a look. Can I set an account up and then mess with different themes to see which ones work? Any themes in particular you’d recommend?

Hmm, good question. Depends on the costs, I suppose. I don’t mind paying a bit, but this is a completely hobbyist project, so I don’t want to pay too much. I’ll take a look at Zenfolio, though.

I’m using the Autofocus theme.
PM me, and I’ll send you a link to the site.

Thanks beowulff. PM sent.

For Google, when you share your collection, you can get a dedicated link which you can use directly or re-direct from your domain name. Of course, then the viewer ends up on Google’s site which may not be what you want.
