That assumes that Xykon gave a damn about the resistance in the first place. They weren’t much of a threat to him personally, and he doesn’t care either way if the goblins hold or lose the city. Why would he care about crushing the resistance?
Yeah, the Resistance has been a threat to Redcloak, but he’s known for a good while now that Xykon’s an even bigger threat to him. He was hoping the Resistance would get the phylactery, so he could take it from them and pull the switcheroo. Letting them live for a while longer was worth that.
Because they interfered with searching for his phylactery. Even given that, he didn’t care all that much – he just delegated the job and went back to his TeeVo.
Wow. The Kickstarter total is well over $300,000, so I guess we’re getting another Mystery Prize.
Edit: At this rate, I think Rich may have to take some time off from the comic to handle mailing out all the rewards.
Xykon doesn’t care about crushing the Resistance.
He thinks that Redcloak is less competent than he is. By revealing his well-laid plans and handily crushing the Resistance, Redcloak would have revealed that he is more competent than Xykon thinks he is.
We’ve seen that Xykon has a good grasp of protagonist/antagonist power levels; he’s always known that Redcloak was high enough level to wipe out the Resistance (they’re not PCs, after all). Xykon just didn’t expect he’d do it unless he was forced to. Xykon now thinks that Redcloak was forced to. For Xykon to have thought that Redcloak did not need to be forced into being effective, but was instead merely biding his time for his plans to come to fruition… that’s Evil Overlord type scheming, and could’ve revealed the puppet strings to Xykon.
Question about the kick starter project: the goal (which they smashed, yay!) was to raise the money to reprint War and XPs. However, the only book I’m missing is No Cure for the Paladin Blues. Is there a pledge level that gets me that book? My incomplete collection is killing me.

My prediction for the next one: Belkar is about to tear Elan a couple a new orifices when the graph re-size knocks him off balance. Heck, maybe something falls on him.
But he didn’t need them to get the phylactery long enough to make a switcheroo - he was head of the search effort anyway. The gobs who found it would have brought it to him. After that, it would only have been a matter of Word of Recalling to his study, do the switch, climb back up the tower to greet Xykon teleporting in. Letting the resistance live that long, letting them know when it would be found (by not killing their spy or otherwise assign him to menial duties), let them nick it, then blow up the resistance to get the phylactery seems unnecessarily circuitous to me.
Then again, RC has been known to overthink stuff

I loved the suggestion someone made on the comment thread on the Kickstarter page: t-shirts printed with ‘I kicked a sexy shoeless god of war and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.’
I’ve just updated my pledge to full colour. I already have the prequels and Snips, snails. Can’t resist this chance to get the others currently in print.
I already have all the books, but I pledged enough to get the print and bonus stories.
I already have Start of Darkness and On the Origin of PCs. I’d like to get Snips, Snails, and some of the other books but there isn’t an easy package to pick up. Any ideas?
